8.2 Earthquake Shakes Gulf of Alaska

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but there have been several major earthquakes occurring in the past 2-3 weeks.

On January 10th there was a 7.6 north of Honduras.
On January 14th there was a 7.1 near the coast of Peru.
On January 19th there was a 6.3 in the Gulf of California, and now the 8.2 in the Gulf of Alaska

What the heck, thanks for pointing it out. i used the seismic monitor and i clicked on today's earthquake and it gave me that link. Let me find another.

USGS has it at 8.2

No word of tsunami warnings.

Here is a link to the website showing the earthquake, but nothing on the news yet.

There actually is a tsunami warning now.

Isn't 8.0 about as strong as they get? Like a CAT-5 Hurricane.

8.2 seems pretty bad. That whole area looks pretty shaky for the past couple of days but with that 8.2 being just offshore, really fearful of tsunami. Was only six miles deep - I don't know if that makes it more or less likely though?

The Sumatra earthquake in 2004 was a 9.3 I think? (9.1 actually) Scientists believe that it could go up to 10 or 12 but none have occurred in modern times that strong in the past 100 years or so.

What about the volcano in the Philippines. I wonder if this has something to do with it.
