Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., told ABC's "The View" Monday that Donald Trump would not be president if Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, adding that the civil rights leader "would have been able to lead us to a different place."

www.foxnews.com...

Well I for one agree with these too for once!

I strongly believe that MLK being the great man that he was would have illuminated how disgusting the identity politics played by many in the Democratic party is, and how we need to stop judging any people by the color of their skin, but instead by the content of their character.

This would have drastically changed the political landscape of the past decade, and perhaps forced both parties to focus more on actual substance instead of pandering to specific races.

As such, I think much of the anger about the "swamp" wouldnt have been as bad, and Trump would have never won a nomination.

Honestly, MLK would probably vote third party, and be disgusted by all of Washington and the media.

I am in Georgia , and no one outside of his district pays one iota of attention to John Lewis.
Why should the country ?
We know him for what he is....

Barack Obama would not have been elected. Candidate Obama wouldn't have been able to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, after 2 terms of high-integrity leadership from President Martin Luther King, Jr..

He would have been 89 this year.....bit on the old side for a POTUS.

However, I could see him having gotten elected by the 80's or 90's.....I imagine things would be a lot different today if he had not been killed.

JOHN LEWIS /MAXINE WATERS / FREDERICA WILSON are boycotting the State-of-The-Union address to be given by the President of the United States of America. (That's the country where John, Maxine, and Frederica resides, and makes their living.)

Would Martin Luther King Jr. boycott the SOTU address given by the President of his country? I have a hard time believing that he would.

but instead by the content of their character.

"I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn’t get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony tits and everything. She’s totally changed her look."

....

"You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything."

I agree, the content of someone's character should be what we judge them by.

Why even play that game? If Lincoln had lived, blah blah blah. If Kennedy had not been killed, blah, blah, blah. If MLK had lived maybe he would have been taken to task for cheating on his wife and plagerizing his doctoral dissertation. Somebody dies and suddenly they are a god damned hero. It makes no sense to speculate that way.

Cracks me up how the Republicans have wholly taken MLK in as their own, even stating he'd decry "identity politics" as labeled by the OP.

Right.

King has been sanitized by the right so as to fit their narrative. He was a force of nature, in the face of the establishment, making absolutely everyone uncomfortable. The people here hating on Lewis, a hero, and Obama, another hero, want us to believe that they'd love MLK if he were alive. These same people likely hate Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, all of them, but they love MLK because he's safely in the past, where history can sanitize the message, make it safe.

If you hate Obama, hate Lewis, hate Sharpton, hate Jackson, you'd definitely hate King. The common theme among these men is they refused to apologize for being black and put that unapologetic position right in front of people's threatened faces, which is why they're detested.

King did it better than all of them, all of them put together. he is safely in the past now because he did it better, they had to kill him to shut him up. He was a revolutionary, he lived to make you and me uncomfortable. Your comfort now, in espousing what you KNOW to be true, would be anathema to him.

Go ahead and hate all these men. You're not fooling anyone. I seriously doubt you're fooling yourselves. If I picked you up and put you down back then, or picked him up and placed him down right now, you'd be fighting him just like you fight Obama and Lewis. There's no difference.

All talk, same story.

You don't get to have him. You don't deserve him, none of us do. He martyred himself against a cause carried on today in the heart of people like Trump.

You just lumped in Al sharpton with MLK.

So I will take your opinion with a grain of salt.

Dumped him in as someone who isn't anywhere near as effective or as radical as King and yet is detested. If a person here detests Sharpton, I don't see them being able to listen to King for more than 30 seconds.

No one is.

He fought for judging based on character instead of race at a time when it was radical to do so, and at great peril to his own well being.

That is his legacy, and its one worth celebrating.

Did MLK ever foster a rape hoax that ruined peoples lives, profit off of it, and then refuse to apologize for it?

And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Nope.

He wasn't.

He shouldn't be sanitized as such.

He wasn't a "cause" - he was a real man, with a real life, real family and real fears, and was gunned down - sins and all - because he wouldn't apologize for who he was and demanded that "un-cashed check" that he talked about on the mall.

The force of nature that was him would terrify nearly all of us today, reminding US that we are not saints. Even better, he'd be noting that "sainthood" isn't the measure.

John F Kennedy was no saint.
Ronald Reagan was no saint.
John McCain is no saint.

And Donald Trump is damn sure no saint.

He was a very dangerous man to those who felt their station in life, by birth, allowed them to kick the ladder of opportunity down from others.

If he wasn't killed then, I suspect he'd be killed now. Because the last thing he was, was safe and comfy for those who now speak of "identity politics" as an excuse to continue to thwart equal opportunity.

Trump would wilt.
