What I don't get is why the Mid East is so important to the US and it can't be oil.

It is a combination of oil, transit routes, mineral rights, open access to markets, and removing threats to our currency as the primary asset of trade between nations. Unfortunately, the last one being the most important seems inevitable. Nations are already abandoning our currency as their primary trading asset. So we slow it down while we develop alternative contingencies for the inevitable outcome of the USD being abandoned as default world reserve currency.

Trump in one year did what Obama couldn’t do in 8 yrs. ISIS rather than growing and gaining ground has finally been reduced in size to a small fraction of itself and only controls its own bladder/

Yea.. right, keep deluding yourself. You folks will buy anything Trump sells you in his laughable tweets and press statements. While Trump certainly has given his Generals more power to do what they need to do without getting permission every step of the way (which I applaud), the majority of the work was done before he took office. Much like the economy. People show graphs of how the economy has risen since Trump has taken office. But it's just a small view.. if you include the last 9 years.. you will see it has risen at the same rate for those 9 years, and Trump is just along for the ride.

Mosul - the eastern half was taken 4 days into his Presidency - he had nothing to do with it. Took 6 months to retake the rest of Mosul. Yay Trump? Raqqa - most of the forces were SDF - a bit of support from the U.S. - yay Trump?

But it won't stop people from patting Trump's back for his "brilliant" defeat of ISIS, or complete turnaround of the economy.

Totally disagree with you. However it’s not about who can come up with the best fact based argument. Even the best argument is simply ignored by the leftist.

You say that we will buy anything that Trump sells. Politics and elections are all about perception. Trump was elected. He is putting conservative judges on the bench which will change politics for decades to come. He is passing conservative based laws and dumping Obama regulations which will change politics for decades to come.

So regardless of your reply Trump won with perception and will keep on winning with perception. And here is some breaking news, enough are buying it in spite of the leftist pitiful responses. You see it’s the boy that cried wolf syndrome.

I suppose you believe it could ever be any different at any point in the future with another empire? It has always been this way, and it always will be this way. It can be no other way. Even the ants and the bees and bacteria and fungus and coral do it exactly the same way . Thus is the nature of life.
