Trump threatens to cut US aid to Palestinians to force peace talks

Donald Trump on Tuesday appeared to threaten to cut off US aid money to the Palestinian Authority, saying they were no longer willing to negotiate.

Trump, in a pair of tweets, said the US paid “the Palestinians HUNDRED [sic] OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect. They don’t even want to negotiate a long overdue … peace treaty with Israel.”

He added: “We have taken Jerusalem, the toughest part of the negotiation, off the table, but Israel, for that, would have had to pay more. But with the Palestinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”

Trump seems to have learned diplomacy from the mafia. Making people an offer they can't refuse usually works, but it doesn't help you make friends.

How about making aid dependent on the willingness to negotiate? Has anyone heard of that before?

Trump is bringing isolationism back to the U.S., and I think his supporters want that. Unfortunately, just like most Trumpers, Trump seems to lack any tact or compassion.

He seems to have a one-track mind, and that track is "offer you can't refuse."

Tillerson is often undermined by the twitter in chief and when the Secretary of State isn't speaking for the USA its not a good look but I tend to pay more attention to Mattis than Trump whoever really is in charge he's closer to him than Trump.

Now this is Awesome. Way to go Trump. He needs to stop giving to every country we send money to and start putting that money into our infrastructure. Time to clean house. Invest that money back into our own country. When we get our own house clean, then we can help others keep theirs clean.

Yeah if a kid kept throwing rocks at me I would want to talk to him, if he didn't stop I would talk to his parents. If his parents would not make him stop, then I would make him stop. Your in-depth evaluation of what is going on in the Middle east might be best answered with a "you may want to look at a bigger picture to see the problem."

I don't think they really want to go to war with this president. The JV team that Obama couldn't handle have been dealt with rather effectively since Trump took over as coach.

HAHAHA... You actually thought that money would come back to the US. There is a 38 billion dollar military aid deal to Israel.

Whats even worse is that Irael is competing with the US in selling arms. It is the arms we gave them.

Look the USA is the worlds 800lb gorilla and it no doubt has toys in the cupboard we dont even know of nor can conceive of yet but a victory after several cities get nuked is a pyrrhic one your dealing with despots and religious fanatics with nuclear weapons so you dont really know what they'll do if pushed.
