It’s about striving for excellence and basic competence.
Trump seems to deliberately trying to undermine government.
It may be that lunatic Bannon’s idea of "deconstruction" Trump is trying to do.
Destroy government by making it incompetent

Courts are so screwed up, we have judges that think they make the law and people are not freaking over that, so why exactly should this horrify me?
Democrat or Republican neither has actually tried to fix any of the problems we are facing.

Yep! It's better to have Trump fanatics than Obama fanatics, as Federal Judges. From what I hear, President Trump's administration is WAAAAY ahead in getting Federal Judges confirmed, from where Obama was in his first year.

Kagan was a law clerk for Judge Abner J. Mikva of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1987 and for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1988. Marshall nicknamed the 5 foot 3 inch Kagan "Shorty". She later entered private practice as an associate at the Washington, D.C., law firm of Williams & Connolly.
Kagan joined the faculty of the University of Chicago Law School as an assistant professor in 1991 and became a tenured professor of law in 1995.

Talley indicated he was prepared to withdraw from consideration after coming under criticism for a lack of experience and for failing to disclose that his wife works in the White House counsel's office.
The official added that the nomination of Mateer, who ran into trouble over extreme statements about transgender children, "will not be moving forward."

I'm not sure Trump is even checking into these people. Just whatever favor a senator or member of his cabinet owes is considered a 'recommendation.'
Two Trump judge nominees out after criticism

Shockingly, the Republican majority doesn't seem to care about checks and balances. Anybody Trump puts up is ok by them.
