I was hoping somebody would start a thread on this. You'd be wise to add 2017 to your thread title though. We get a "California is Burning Up" thread every winter. Hard to search for a particular one when they all are worded so generically.

BTW... Do you think President Trump will declare Southern California a "disaster" area, even though much of the state was a disaster before this week?

Ya! lol you should see some of the live news feeds.

The sepulveda pass is on fire too near the getty museum and the skirball cultural center.

The getty has a collection of van Goghs renoir gougan (sp)and monets that could be at risk of smoke damage.

Up to last week i used to live at the base of the sepulveda pass. Looks like i had good timing to get out of los angeles when i did last week.

At least ,that’s the aim of the humanoid Shipboard Autonomous Firefighting Robot (SAFFiR, yes, pronounced “safer”) in development by the Office of Naval Research. The Navy demonstrated the robot last winter, and it was one of the competitors at DARPA’s robotics grand challenge last summer. To help SAFFiR walk a little better, the Navy just awarded a $600,000 grant to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to teach the robots how to walk better.

I gotta say yes.

What's really freaking me out is that the already strong winds are being accelerated by the fire to over 80mph. A Category 1 Hurricane is 75mph.
