He's probably already back on the street and headed to the nearest sanctuary.

It was the ricochet's fault!

If it wasn't for that, Kate would still be alive. (according to the defence)

He will be on the streets again soon, no doubt. Even if he gets deported, he'll be back in sanctuary city SF, but I'll bet he will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. There are many people not happy over this California jury's verdict.

The jury didn't want to be accused of being racist and xenophobic by the press.

He's been in jail for 2 years, he could walk as "time served" for the felony gun possession.

Apparently the gun he held, he didn't know it was a gun so not even Involuntary Manslaughter.

I thought his original excuse was that he did not mean to kill her, that he was trying to shoot a sea lion.

If that's true, then he knew he was holding a weapon.

I looked at the Wikipedia page for Katherine Steinle, and that was his original story. He also said that he was undwr the effect of sleeping pills that 'hw found in a dumpster' and he 'found' the gun (stolen from a BLM agent's vehicle) under a seat on the pier.

The .40-caliber Sig Sauer pistol had been stolen from a U.S. Bureau of Land Management ranger’s car after he drove into the city and parked along the Embarcadero. No one has been arrested in the burglary, one of several cases in recent years in which Bay Area law enforcement officers lost guns to thieves and which have prompted legislators to push for tougher requirements for securing weapons.

They never found out who had stolen the gun out of the ranger's car. How do we know it wasn't this pos that killed Kate?

May Kate's family find peace somehow some way.

I am so furious about this...I have rarely been so mad, perhaps its because I am a father, perhaps its because I follow the laws of countries I have lived in and visited, but I assure you, I cannot put in print what I imagine I would do in her fathers place.
This scumbag , this scumbag judge, jury and lawyer.

I apologize for my rant...

This is our justice system. Now. In 2017.

It became a referendum on the plight of illegals and stopped being a murder case.

Same mentality as the idea that guns kill, not people....

There were three immigrants on the jury. Maybe that tainted the verdict.

Jury reaches verdict

They could have charged him with first degree murder, second degree murder, or involuntary manslaughter.

With any chance of reasonable doubt, it would be the duty of the jury to find him not guilty.
Whether we, or even they (the jury), like it or not.

It’s highly unlikely anyone is going to wait for all of the details they haven’t been exposed to from the trial that lead to this decision before they try to make some sort of political statement that supports their agenda.

I dare say that in the following weeks and months that this will be discussed, people on both sides will be using this ladies death to push their point without any actual compassion or genuine sadness for her and her family.
Solely to be used as a weapon for the agenda of selfish sick people.

You’ll have people blaming guns.
You’ll have people blaming immigration (illegal or otherwise).
Probably even to push for legislation.

But not with an ounce of sorrow or remembrance for Kate.
Only for the narrative and opportunity that has arisen out of her tragic death.

Despite the possibility that the jury very likely had no choice but to find him not guilty...
& despite the possibility that outcome is actually Constitutionally correct...
I can’t truly say justice has been done here.

There is legal & illegal...
But there is also right & wrong...

& often times they are not in conjunction with what common sense would expect.

This is a very sad ending.

This is exactly what happened, and the jury fell for it. They should be F**king ashamed of themselves. AT A MINIMUM it should have been involuntary manslaughter. An acquital is an absolute joke.

The jury had the ability to find him guilty of all of those charges. From the OP's link-

Garcia Zarate, 45, faced a charge of second-degree murder, but jurors were also allowed to consider first-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter convictions.
