What happened to all of the bugs? A 50 year observation from one location.

There were so many termites around here in the 70's, they used to treat houses with Chlordane, which is now, obviously such a prolific poison, that it was replaced. Still, I do not see them in the rotting stumps in the swamp like I used to, nor any beetles or hornets. Climate? , perhaps.

Who is here from Ohio?
Do the Mayflies still swarm?

When I was a small child, I lived in Rocky River.
I remember so many Mayflies around the lights of gas stations, that there were a few inches of dead ones, all over the ground. Did not happen every year, but there was a cycle.

I don't know, I live in Louisiana, more bugs than ever here.

Just this morning a giant cockroach was scurrying across my front yard and my son dropped a brick on it. He kept running brick and all. Then several mosquitoes ran into my front door and got their beaks stuck. I grabbed a hammer and knocked their beaks down so they couldn't get away and blew em away with a shotgun.

Wish I could say I've noticed less bugs.

I bought a pellet gun for the roaches and spiders, here.

The kind that shoots the little round plastic ones. Even has a mag.

What I like is the squadrons of dragonflies that come and hang around.

Reminds me of a time long ago, about 30 mins north of the Op's place.

I've moved around a lot, but FL and TX has had the most bugs, it seems.

No bees would be a disaster and no bugs at all would be worse.

They really do.

It never really gets cold enough along the gulf coast to kill them all during the wintertime it seems.

Personally, I leave the dragonflys and spiders alone (unless its a brown recluse or something like that). They eat all of the mosquitoes. Plus I like to go outside at sunrise and see the spiderwebs glistening in the morning sunlight along my front porch.

I have a pet mini pig. I keep waiting to see if any of them have his name spelled in their web.

It is nice now to lie on the ground on
a pad, have a nap, and nary is there a

Seeing as the biomass of insects was
3/4 of all life on Earth it makes sense to
reclaim most of that space by killing
most insects. If that is the plan it is
working.
