Saudi police have reportedly arrested a man for talking to a woman during his lunch break in the city of Mecca.

The pair talk for half a minute

some suggesting the man should marry the girl to atone for the offence
Source

Imagine being arrested for talking to someone of the opposite sex, or forced to marry a man just because you spoke to him for an entire minute. This is the reality of life in Islamic Saudi Arabia, where women are also liable to face arrest and execution if they get raped.

Now now.
We are only allowed to judge white male culture.
Everybody else is free to live how they wish.

Probably a good thing she wasn't married or she might have been stoned to death for enticing a man.

What if the woman doesn't want to marry the man she met for 30 secs? Or she is already married? Burn her or stone her?

Agreed but we can't exclude our own nations from that summary.

So, in the land of desert-Islam where reality meets fantasy, royalty is under house arrest, Iran is a bully & female robots without hijabs can become citizens but humans of different genders can't talk to each other otherwise 'punish'?

Sounds like someone wants to join the 21st century but can't because 'book'.

Can you name an instance similar to this one in which someone in western culture is subject to death if they do not submit to marriage, for 30 seconds of speaking to that person?

There is no comparison. The West has issues, but this story appears to show a true sickness.

Well she's probably pregnant now.
They should have to get married.

I completely agree.

Kids these days are far too licentious and lecherous.

Not all of Saudi Arabia is like this.
It's split into sections, sort of states where they all have their own laws and even princes.
Most of Saudi Arabia is rather moderate towards women, and a lot of women can do what ever they want really, in Dubai for example most business' are run by successful women, in the state where Mecca is it's obviously a different story and even addresses this in the sourced article.

Riyadh is known for its adherence to ultra-conservative Islamic norms and strict segregation of men and women. It has long been the only state where women are officially forbidden to drive. Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman made waves late last month when he pledged to restore “moderate” Islam, which is open to all religions in the world

Mecca is the place to be for all Muslims around the world, and it needs to hold values of every Muslim, it's going to be more conservative than open minded.
At the end of the day tho, it's still crazy, Islam is the strangest religion for our world today, it really doesn't make sense. But if it's going to change it needs to change at the core, and I think Saudi Arabia is slowly (and painfully) progressing.

No , but that isn't the point.
Their rules are their rules and those who live in those countries know the rules , we may not agree with their rules but a sovereign nation still has the right to make their own laws.

Isn't this like a culture thing? Men are supposed to seek permission from the family before introducing themselves or 'talking to' them in public.

Its not a crime though, 'sounds like' they used it as an excuse to hide the real reason he was arrested.

Right now, over there, lots of people gettin arrested.

Is there like a police officer every 5-10 meters from each other in SA? That is very creepy. Talk about total government control over its people. Big Brother definitely watching them!
