A half-dozen Democrats on Wednesday introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, accusing him of obstruction of justice and other offenses, in a long-shot effort that stands little chance in the Republican-led House

Here we go. I wonder how this will turn out. Anyone up for making a few predictions on this? Cohen made his own.

Cohen said he understands that Republicans hold the majority in the House and are unlikely to allow hearings on the impeachment articles. He said the group will hold occasional briefings to explain each of the five articles of impeachment and where they believe Trump ran afoul of the law or committed misdeeds that warrant impeachment.

Sounds pretty serious. Maybe...

The five articles accused the president of obstruction of justice related to the FBI investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, undermining the independence of the federal judiciary and other offenses.

“We have taken this action because of great concerns for the country and our Constitution and our national security and our democracy,” Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., said at a news conference to announce the effort.

I guess if you fire a director, people will come after you...

The obstruction of justice allegation stems from Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, which the lawmakers say was designed to delay and impede an investigation.

The articles of impeachment also charge that Trump has accepted without the consent of Congress emoluments from foreign states and from the U.S. government. Finally, the articles of impeachment allege he has undermined the federal judiciary and the freedom of the press.

Wonder if it'll turn out any better than when they did it last month.

My guess: nope.

And all without any actual crimes occurring.

Pretty impressive piece of fiction they wrote up! On the govt's dime no less.

Jesus H. Christ. Impeach him for WHAT?!
We sat idle while Obama completely destroyed Libya, which had the highest standard of living in Africa and a leader who took care of his people. That S.O.B. has a god damn Nobel Peace Prize! But no, we are going to impeach Trump for..... What again??

No, but it will grab peoples attention with flashy headlines. It'll keep the words "impeach" and "Trump" fresh in peoples minds. And it will give the desperate people more false hope of impeachment and keep them digging into their pocket books to donate more $$$ to the DNC.

Democrats did this to Bush as well.

Pretty sure Obama had some impeachment threats as well.

This will go nowhere.

Trump had every right to fire Comey, as he could have easily done it as soon as he took over the office as President. That's his right. The fact that there is currently a special prosecutor on the whole "Russia collusion" case says that this charge against Trump is even more worthless and pointless.

As for Trump receiving gifts from foreign governments, I haven't heard of any such proof. On the other hand, we know that the Clintons tried to take all of their gifts with them when they left the White House and were forced to return them.

As for receiving any kind of income from anyone domestically, I'm not sure where that's coming from either. As far as we know, Trump's not receiving any kind of paycheck from the businesses that his children run or from anyone else. The Democrats are probably trying to claim that any income his businesses receive is personal income and that doesn't count within the law.

As for Trump undermining courts and the media, he's only doing it with words, just like the media is doing to him. Neither has a case against the other on that one. If they want to claim that putting down the media is a threat against democracy, we could easily say that false allegations in the media against the President are worse or equally as bad.

instead of coming up with a compromise on health care or a proper tax reform debate or how to secure the borders or investigation on naval ships crashing left and right, or soldiers dying in ambushes, they choose to earn their paycheck by wasting taxpayers money on divisive worthless tripe
brava..

I think what he meant to say was “...because we have become totally irrelevant and will do anything for cheap publicity...” oh, and “...because our Queen lost her foregone coronation...”

That's pretty much what Dem party leadership is saying. They know their narrative is false about Trump, they don't need gullible people pursuing baseless impeachment articles off of their purely political rhetoric.

This is a NEAT idea...

When these GOP-types don't support it...

Their voting records can be put on DISPLAY down the road for not being on the right side of history.

"You voted not to impeach..."

Draws a LINE and puts people on record.

The question is why would they even try to at this point? They do not have the numbers to do anything right now, when it comes to serious matters like impeachment.

Add to that some of the members of congress have just as much to lose if this does come to a hearing, and pretty much it is a moot point at this time. However, perhaps it would be better to let the special counsel finish his investigation and work on protecting the man 100% and see where it leads to?

Sorry, as much as you WANT it to be true...

Trump is NOT a "God King"...

He can't just do whatever he wants.

Alternate take: Maxine Waters, often described as the most corrupt politician in Washington, is attacking the supervisor of the Department of Justice who threatened to "drain the swamp" of corruption. Sounds like a possible attempt at obstruction of justice.

See my reply above.

Puts GOP non-supporters on record for not supporting it.

Hindsight will be 20/20...
