Nope, I don't other than going back to the tribal structure we used for hundreds of thousands of years before we let strangers enslave us and take us away from family.

Cool. There's plenty of wild places left on Earth. I'm sure it's pretty cheap to just wander off into them. Why haven't you gotten started?

Communes can be groovy, man.

Except in places where's there's a lot of mud. A lack of bars too. Both kinds.

What schools teach people how to survive off the grid? Did you know that people are a product of their environment? I don't have time to learn survival skills when I have bills to pay and a job to work. I can be trapped while still acknowledging my entrapment.

It's been several hours since I saw the video. It's haunted me. I knew this existed but guess I try to not pay attention and live in lala land in the US.

I don't see the humor in this issue. All those poor people. So disturbing-so heartbreaking. No complaining from me tonight.

The US. Where refugees are unwelcome. Especially those who may be of a certain religious persuasion.

Sound like a fair price to me, unless they are handicapped or missing teeth etc.

You make me ill.

I predict you you won't be a popular poster on ATS, if your first post is indicative of what you think is humorous.

Yes, Phage. The US. We welcome thousands of immigrants every year and are the biggest givers of donations of every kind to those less fortunate throughout the world. America is the most giving country in the world.

Well, we used to do pretty well.

Refugees aren't handled quite the same as they were. The quota has been quite drastically reduced.

That's odd. I could have sworn that our borders are not secure, meaning dangerous people can cross at will while those who wait and utilize legal channels are routinely barred entry. Regardless of religious affiliation. Derp derp.

Deeply disturbing. One of the world's saddest truths is out and out actual slavery persists to this day, in greater numbers than ever before.

We have allies that practice slavery. Shouldn't we at the bare minimum not trade, nor anything else with any nation that allows slave trade.

I mean if we really do care, shouldn't we be doing something like the above?

FIFA WC Qatar 2022 anyone? Is it still on? Are the celebrity footballers still going? I just came from a thread where someone was talking about how people admire and venerate celebrities and sports athletes (that person actually used the expression "people behave as if they were worshiping those celebrities or footballists"). 'Don't mix politics with sports' right? Even when the organizers and those paying the salaries and bills at their clubs do mix that cocktail in their best interests?*

*:

Oh, regarding her request above: "So tell me how we fail to understand."

2 Corinthians 4:2-4

But we have renounced the shameful, underhanded things, not walking with cunning or adulterating the word of God; but by making the truth manifest, we recommend ourselves to every human conscience in the sight of God. 3 If, in fact, the good news we declare is veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that the illumination* [Or “light.”] of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.

Yeah but there's always that one guy who can't cook. That's the bummer of a commune.

When Jimmy makes "Jimmy's Chicken Surprise" everyone groans.

I'm sure if you saved up enough money you could fly to the Amazon basin and find a small tribe to take you in? Think of it as a real life "Heart of Darkness" adventure dude!

So called "modern" slavery is no joke. While slavery persists in the developed world at very marginal levels, it is more widespread across Africa and the Middle East, plus the Indian sub continent. Forced labour, debt bondage, child slavery, forced marriage are all features of life in some places of the world.

This video from the OP is just a video. It is not revealing a "new thing". Where there is ignorance, poverty, "tradition", misery and brutality, there will be some form of slavery going on.

SOLD! Now come spend a good portion of your life doing what I tell you or else you lose your income and livelihood.

Modern day slavery. Billions of people sell themselves to highest bidder every day.

Quite an insightful point there and, for those who say it's willing...well, see how long you keep your kids out of a care home if you try living off the grid and apart from this.
Everything is geared towards compulsion, just the whips these days are invisible.

We don't even have independent Continents.

The individual comes last. It's getting there.

Globalization will ruin slavery. It's already managed to get CNN to wander into different countries like they could have an impact in the first place.

Automated labor will also revolutionize slavery, like the iRobot movie, or Chapie, humanoid robots with small improvements in artificial intelligence will likely take over mundane tasks, and as obsolescence in richer countries happens, they will likely be exported to poorer countries.

I cannot see the value in a slave if for the same price you can own something cold and mechanical that is happy to be your slave.

I'm just going to say, if you actually sell yourself to the 'highest bidder', you kind of won the slave game.

Especially in contract deals. Google buys individual IP patent concepts for like a billion dollars.

Slavery doesn't compute at some point if you're over-compensated by 10,000.00%

Oh wait, Slavery doesn't compute if you're compensated at all. That's the whole point.

Plus anyone tomorrow in America can start their own business, and be the metaphorical slave owner.

I know plenty of dirt bags not worth 2 minutes of my time, that still run their own 'slave ships'(bars, gas stations, restaurants) and are the Rulers of their Universe.
