Woman steals an FBI supervisor's weapon

This happened in July, but it is all over the news today for some reason.

It seems an FBI supervisor took a woman, claiming to be an exotic dancer, upstairs to his hotel room in Charlotte, NC. after drinking in the bar. Next morning, it is discovered that his gun was stolen along with his Rolex and some cash. I have to wonder what else was taken.


This was an FBI supervisor in COUNTERTERRORISM!

Investigators still haven't found the woman or the stolen gun. And...get this!...he has not been suspended!!

Last year we had the report of a laptop being stolen from an FBI agent's car; or weapons and other items stolen from an FBI vehicle just 2 hrs. before Seth Rich's murder; and, a cursory search turned up other reports of badges, credentials, and handguns begin stolen from locked and alarmed FBI vehicles last January in Sacramento.

Here's another one that happened last January:

The FBI is missing a submachine gun and a bulletproof vest and is seeking the public’s help to track down the tactical gear.
The items were stolen from a special agent’s vehicle on the evening of Jan. 8 or the morning of Jan. 9 in either Concord, Orinda or Lafayette, according to a brief statement released Friday by the FBI’s field office in San Francisco.

This is just unacceptable!

And the government and certain people in society are worried about my guns?!? The feds misplace MACHINE GUNS!!! Oh well at least their highly trained!

"Stole" is such a harsh word. We shouldn't judge the situation until we have all the facts.

Maybe she temporarily confiscated the weapon "for her safety."

Maybe she believed the suspect was engaged in illegal activity (sex with a prostitute) and performed a Civil Asset Forfeiture. The agent can hire a lawyer and go to court and reclaim his property by proving he wasn't engaged in illegal activity.

Meh. I'm sure they could just grab another machine gun out of one of the boxes they supply the Cartels with.

My guess is that weapon is going to be matched to the murders of very important people in the not too distant future.

Of course he should have been suspended. Agents are never supposed to leave their weapon unsecured. There was a safe in the room.

He should be out of the job, no question about it.

I have a federal job, and I work with protected information and sensitive equipment--if it is not properly secured when on travel or even at home, you can get in major hot water. I don't carry a firearm on me, but work with those who do, and this should never have happened. At the very least, his firearm should have been locked in the room's safe if someone was staying the night in that room.

But this is a pervasive problem in government, not to mention the government itself is a problem with accountability and security. This doesn't surprise me one bit, but when it happens, proper punishment should happen swiftly.

Yes. Accountability for sensitive items is the individual's responsibility. If he didn't have a way to secure the weapon with someone else in the room, he should not have had someone in the room.

It's called personal responsibility, and federal employees go through, at the very least, annual training concerning proper storage of sensitive items. We are also reminded of the possible outcomes if we fail to do so, which can include termination and even criminal charges.

So, yes, a unit chief in the FBI's counterterrorism unit absolutely, at the very least, should be suspended if he fails to secure his duty weapon and it gets stolen by a stripper.

What part of that is confusing?

THAT is what makes me think there is more to this story than meets the eye.

The theft in San Francisco last January where someone stole a submachine gun, vest and tactical gear, is especially troublesome.

Is it really carelessness....or something else more fast and furious.

Yeah, because an agent should have more sense than to drink and pick up someone in a bar. It shouldn't matter if they were on duty or off duty.
