Please don't let up on the nonsensical stuff. The world needs it. I need it. I'm not joking. I used to come here to be informed, now I come for the laughs. It really is a bright spot in my day.

That's not what I said-at all.

I only responded to your several posts that you don't care what anyone thinks about you.

Perhaps it is the harshness of your words that seem confusing. ATS exists, in my humble opinion, to share and exchange thoughts and ideas. It is in polite discussion to listen, read and respond in kind. I want to know new things and I want to expand my own little world of ideas so I do care what others write and their thoughts because I just might learn something which may make me think in a different, new way.

If you are stating that ATS members have made you feel foolish or idiotic, I do know how that feels and I think that is what the OP is hoping can be toned down and provide a more civilized discourse for the future.

Maybe people should stick to the issues instead of disrespecting each other and the President.

Is disliking him disrespectful? It's not a matter of hate BTW....dislike for what he is. If fellow Americans can call him a Bozo before he was President, why can't they now for instance?

I thought this thread was about making ATS better, however, if you still wish to be a jackwagon then no one is going to stop you.

I don't see why. Americans have been interjecting their opinions on Canadian topics for a long time. I appreciate that they are interested in our country.

I am simply saying that I have enough confidence in my own convictions to not be bothered by what someone else may or may not think about me. It is a very simple notion. This is how I live my life in the real world.

I agree with you for the most part as well, why else would I be on ATS? I am here daily and contribute daily because I care about this site. What you are mentioning I think is universally agreed upon, and has very little to do with what I am trying to say.

At the end of the day, when I care, I care a lot. And when I don't care, I could give a....

Also, I think in my relatively short time here, my history speaks for itself.

I like you, and your posts. Saying something nice to a complete stranger is common for me. It has started some of the best conversations in a Walmart.

Go ahead and dislike him and say how horrible his policies are, but avoid the name calling...I was demonstrating how unnecessary the name calling can be and you should be able to make your point without calling the President disrespectful names.

I am trying to suggest things that we can stop doing things that annoy people. When you comment on someone else's country it is like a mother-in-law giving advice to a new mother. It isn't welcome and it tends to piss people off regardless of the good intentions.

I get what you are saying...Trump/Hillary 24x7 is obnoxious. It certainly is.

That said...its blasted in media 24x7, and is thus circulated back to the top of everyones minds.

One thing I know is that ATS has a level of civility, even on its worst day, that surpasses 99% of the non-paid internet.

I didn't, your fellow Americans did, I found it quite suitable at the time, still do...but I'm asking you why can't you call Trump that now..and why should you be so offended anyway, it's not like you thought much of him when you didn't want to vote for him a while back?

Opinions on poutine, mockery of 'aboot,' following the NHL, and watching reruns of Dudley Doright on Cartoon Network hardly matches the level of interjected opinions Canadians frequently take into US politics.

Sounds a little boring, not to mention a path to uniformity and consensus.

And that too, is something you have been adept at in a hit and run fashion. I could have come back on some of them, none of them directed to me personally, perhaps people' s countries, or situations and the like, but I was never quite sure if it was meant with, 'good' intentions', ignorance, or just plain mockery.

Start a thread or dig up an old one and lets look at it again with fresh eyes, speak your mind and do not be afraid that others may not agree with you but above all just be respectful of others and remember that just because anothers opinion differs to yours does not make it wrong.

That's something I can agree with wholeheartedly.
Not so much dig up old threads, but maybe throw light on what may now be considered old misconceptions of events, but in my timeline..not so old...Nixon's war, for instance, how many times have we heard that expression...and what did it mean, all according to who you talked to??..loads of stuff out there, and often new light on it, and how do you view it, without a bias? or just the facts? or is it plainly not that simple, and anything goes?

definitely, not boring as one poster has said.

If the Canadians, Brits, Aussies and the rest left here, it would be so much less entertaining and interesting. I love the input, personally. (The authentic peeps I mean - if you know what I mean.)

Yep. I visited a site where everyone agreed with me and I thought "Hm. Not enough controversy". lol.
But.... there is such a thing as too much controversy. Sort of irreconcilable differences. You reach a point where divorce seems the only path.

Mm, two ironies there. One being, there are frequent clickbait threads by Americans of SWEDEN IN CIVIL WAR! GERMANY BURNING! SOCIALISM RUINS NORWAY! ...by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

The other being, tons of people disrespected Obama, tons more disrespect Trump. They're politicians, not above criticism, and people's emotions make them do it. Just keep ignoring the dumb nicknames, trolls feed on attention.
