Of course, as a polysci major, I was told everything is political-but I don't believe each discussion needs to devolve into a hateful rage between the same members.

Uh huh. Someone posts on something and you KNOW who's going to show up and then the redundant back and forth and the topic is then not worth posting in as the continual argument rages on. It's OLD.

Stop bickering and lets talk like adults.

I say that we go one further and actually be adults, not just like adults.

You and I have bickered back and forth numerous, but lately, we have had much better discourse. It's so much nicer, and I appreciate it more than you realize.

Good thread, though, for sure--none of us, including me, are immune to pointless bickering and being disagreeably disagreeable. It's something I'm truly trying to work on, at least with people with whom I think that I will make a difference. There are some who are just too rigid in their ways...

We have disagreed but that is what makes it interesting.

You have on occasion made me look like a right muppet and I have after a while conceeded that and moved on and taken the facts on board, maybe I have made you reflect on points in a similar fashion. This is good and what should happen.

Non of us are perfect but when we refuse to listen because we are so caught up in our own beliefs then it all becomes pointless.

I agree. I don't mean to be a pessimist but every glimmer of hope that occasionally pops out of the blue, quickly gets overshadowed by the typical fodder.

I may be a pessimist in this regard, but I do have a bit of hope.

People just love to virtue signal and bathe in confirmation bias.

But enough about politics lets look at how we can make ATS great again.

Too many snowflakes on here. I agree...the more in depth this site goes into politics the less I am interested in being a member. This is not what I signed up for.

Plus the fact there is just so much negativity and fake news out there it wouldn't come to my surprise ATS would be changed to AFN...ie. Above Fake News

And too many a$$holes using cliche over-used trigger words.

Do you see yourself as part of the problem or part of the solution?

Genuine question.

That's not for me to decide. You are free to take a look at my history and come to your own judgement.

I know who I am and what I bring to the table, and that's all that matters to me.

I disagree, we are all individuals and my opinion of you is unimportant.

What is important is what you feel you bring to the BBQ.

So what could you do to make ATS great again Mr Cowboy?

How can I make ATS great again? I could try and post more threads concentrating
on topics that are fun and informative.I could try to resist these urges to pick on
weaker members.I should try to lead by example on how a member should post a
reply. It would be a difficult challenge for me and I will give it a try, sometime soon.

That was my whole point, I don't really care how others may or may not perceive me.

Fine I'll play. I feel I bring something most people have never seen or tasted before. So you will either love it or hate it.

Remind people that it's not always serious.

Believe it or not. . . . when people say bad things about me or my opinions I don't curl up in a little ball and weep.

Mostly.

You raise an interesting point in what you say so if I may talk without attacking?

You say that you do not care how others percieve you so why comment? It sounds more like you do care?

Why is it a love or hate thing? If you say something that is true or makes sense then regargless of opinion it has merit?

It sounds a bit like you care but have to add in a diclaimer because you lack cnviction in what you say.

I think you are misunderstanding me. When I say I don't care how others perceive me, that mean's I say what I feel with such conviction that I could care less how others perceive it. Contrary to your ludicrous claim.

Why is it a love or hate thing? For one, I am very blunt and honest with my tone and it may come across as condescending sometimes, but I will always keep it real. So it's only normal you will either hate my tone or appreciate my honesty.

But what about when it is serious?

There have been threads that have been serious.

Those threads, in my opinion, were of real people with real issues and real problems.

I've not commented too much in the threads, but when I could, I reached out in PM's and have paid for things or tried to alleviate problems.

Life is far to often, serious.

And I've taken those issues seriously.

But politics?

I can say I want to take away your guns and your freedoms. . . but really, I can't.

No one can.

We argue opinions.

We (some of us) invest so much time online that we project ourselves, our egos, online.

I used to write for a major website. I actually got paid and actually used my name and had an editor and everything. I got death threats daily.

(go figure)

But these people weren't going to kill me, my ego got so big that I thought my words were so important that I often thought I was in danger.

I thought too highly of myself.

I'm just a fat old man with an attitude, a sense of humor, and an opinion.

That's all.

I'm just like you but better looking.

It's only cyber serious, good thing to as if this was a barroom, blood would have been spilled and the cops called; the whole place shut down and boarded up as a public nuance. There's also a negative side....

I meant that if you care you should comment but saying that you do not care is not true.

You want someone to listen to you as you feel that your view has merit right?

So if you want people to listen to what you say surely it is better to say it in such a way that they listen as opposed to rejecting your ideas?
