While logged into ATS I have never gotten any pop ads displayed on my phone when in the recent or forums pages.
As far as I remember the ads were based on the activity of the user, which shouldn't have changed much for me.

However, now I get different pop up ads on the bottom right of my screen while on ATS on my mobile. The ads don't display anywhere else but only on ATS.

Also no pop blocker changes on my device either.

Was a new change implemented that effects this on ATS or do I need to go worry about gremlins on my mobile device? Just wanted to ask before putting to much time on dissecting my device .

Update:
It appears that this is a thing now. I get it and see it from both sides perhaps we can come up with a middle ground?

1. ATS need funds to continue, nobody will argue that.Atleast I hope not?

2. Pop up ads are rather annoying even though I understand its a necessary evil when their is no membership fees.

3. Charging membership fees will likely cause a mass exodus.

Now I really don't know much about inner or outs of online advertising nor how the rules associated with it.

However, is the following a valid compromise that wouldn't break advertisers requirements?

The issue with popup ads is that it ruins the users experience and takes them out of the moment.

I would be ok with supporting ATS and clicking on the ads purposely every x amount of times, but at my discretion.

In other words when I log in or x amount of time has passed I get a notification saying you need to click 10 ads within the next x days. So the next time I log in I go to a section of ATS where the ads are kept and I click 10 ads and my counter gets reset. Now I have x amount of days to continue reading and participating without being annoyed by a pop up ad during the middle of reading or creating a thread?

Is that even an option or will that break some type of online regulations against advertisers?

Something might have changed recently as if I visit the homepage it takes me to a pop up list of ads that it never used to but not sure if that has anything to do with your issues.

I noticed the same. I don't remember last time I had an ad on my phone on here.

I did some checking and it's only on the mobile version, not the desktop version (for me, anyway)

That does not sound right?

I should get less ads and it only pops up if I go to the main page but every single page sounds a bit out of charecter?

Agreed since I never had to deal with them until today.

and the content is free and GOOD

Agreed but the content is also provided by the users as well , for free. If I recall it was one of the perks for being an active member.

ATS has to eat too!

Agreed and this thread wasn't really about whether ATS should eat or not , as it should. It was more about confirming if a policy or other change was made that now is generating ads that didn't exist before.

Apparently It is a change as I'm not the only one experiencing the ads.

Yea, I'm getting a Spoutable ad everytime a page refreshes. I'll get one (and I just closed one) right after I hit post here.

On the plus side, I may be able to find out how two local girls became millionaires.

...and did you know there's a natural alternative to Viagra?

Why are you complaining ?

According to spoutable you are getting a superior and engaging digital advertising experiences, LOL

According to Spoutable

Spoutable is a machine learning company delivering superior website monetization through highly engaging digital advertising experiences

I can see that translating to an engaging digital advertising POP BLOCKER experience for many.

I see it the issue from both sides. However, turning the Internet to a cat and mouse game between consumers and content providers is probably not the best way to go for either one.

I am getting the ad on the bottom of the page as well, on mobile....very annoying as it blocks half my screen

I've never run an ad blocker, but I do run a pop up blocker. There's a big difference.

I started running the pop up blocker when I had to get my phone fixed to remove a pop up requesting an f-buddy 🙄 - it showed up on this site a couple of years back.

The ads are fine, some pop ups can wreck your device.

At least the proper ads are just showing nice sweaters, jackets, and boots.

I don't really mind the ads. For me, they're small and take up a tiny space at the bottom of the screen. It's just odd that it's only on mobile version.

If it's the way it's going to be from now on, I can live with it.
