It wasn't just Virginia:

Socialist Seema Singh Perez won a seat on the Knoxville City Council in Tennessee.

Anita Prizio won a seat on the Pittsburgh City Council and Mik Pappas because a District Justice.

Somerville, Mass. elected JT Scott and Ben Ewen-Campen to join the Board of Aldermen

Charles Decker will represent Ward 9 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Larry Krasner was elected as the Philadelphia District Attorney.

Socialists winning seats in cities is also nothing big. City denizens are big on voting themselves into other people's pockets.

Do you know of any other socialists elected to local office before this? I know of Kshama Sawant in 2014 but that's all I can think of.

Remember all those times you said that democrats weren't socialists?

Some are most aren't. We need whatever will swing us away from the massively corrupt and destructive Republican/Capitalist/aristocratic hell that America is turning into.

Comrade O'Lenin sends his regards from Illinois

Just kidding, but would you mind explaining how either of those first two things are "hell"?

Good to here, clearly the people made their choice.

Best of luck to her. I still dislike socialism and nobody will ever go along with forced redistribution. But you can advocate for it to your heart's content.

Guys, I'm very late to the party and probably nobody will read this but seriously, why are we wasting time and energy debating this topic when in the not so distant future it will be needless?

Robots ARE going to take the majority of jobs and we WILL have to instill some sort of robot tax/national wage type system? It's inevitable! Well, unless we blast ourselves back into the stone age before that point!

It's the best of both worlds!

I am very much against human tax/communism... The people saying they don't want to work so that some lazy people can sit around all day are absolutely right! But if robots are providing that time and energy then what does it matter if someone wants to sit around all day and do nothing?

Robot tax/national wage will change everything! What we should be doing is yelling at the government to start the ball rolling NOW! The first step would be to start a robot tax right away! Once the income from that hits a certain point we can roll out the national wage! Even workers will get it! There will be no more income tax for humans!

Interesting economic concept.

Not likely quite that simple...but it makes sense given humanities need to manage scarcity for social stratification.
