An awful lot of people in this thread really need to educate themselves on what democratic socialism is...

If you look at what the guy actually stands for, there's precisely zero communism. And a whole bunch of protecting workers rights, justice reform, in fact, a lot of the things that people who voted for Trump claimed to be in favour of.

Why does he have a painting of young Sylvester Stallone on his wall behind him?

We also have this
Danica Roem of Virginia to be first openly transgender person elected, seated in a U.S. statehouse
so uh yeah I would say times are a changing. I must say that I'm actually surprised by this but good for VA, good for you!

This is not surprising in the least...Clinton had won all 13 electoral votes in Virginia in 2016!
Obviously, their politics and demographics have not changed in a years time.

Russia must not have been involved in this election, since the left won. Perhaps we should start an investigation just in case.

Anything to address wealth inequality in this country is a good thing.

But only after government steps in with a big stick and takes over first.

Socialism is the state voting itself into your pocket regardless of how you deal with others because some other guy deals badly.

The socialist answer to wealth inequality:

John has $40. Tony has $0. Everyone needs $20 to get through the day. The socialist says empower the government to take $20 from John to give to Tony. Everyone has $20.

That only works so long as John feels it worth his while to earn $40. What happens when he decides it's only worth his time and effort to earn $20 because that's all he's allowed to keep anyhow?

Oh, that's when socialists blame everyone else for the failings of the system, start confiscating things, sending people off to prison/forced labor camps, and telling the world it wasn't real socialism, just that the wrong people were in charge.

See the USSR or Venezuela or any other such experiment.

Only in Marxist Socialism is that a true statement.

Socialism doesn't really have a fixed definition.

Western, identity politics cultist socialists would find themselves kicked out of their contemporaries in the rest of the world

I just saw this- one of the winners in tonight's elections in Virginia is identified with Democratic Socialists. He is only in the state government, not federal, but this is a very interesting sign and hopefully a sign of things to come. Americans are seeing the oppression and hopelessness of corporatism, uncontrolled capitalism and extreme conservatism and realizing that more business as usual is not going to do anything to help the majority of people in this country.

...and you wonder why people aren't willing to give up military firearms.

Socialism isn't the solution to our nation's troubles - it is a major part of the cause.

We will never accept socialism in this country. Any attempts to thwart the Constitution of the United States and our lawful system of government will not be tolerated.

On the bright side, such comments alone totally justify the Citizen's need to own military weaponry. Can't protect ourselves from socialist/communist dictators without them, now can we?

Anything, eh?

Even if it means attempting (and I say attempt, you'd never succeed) to steal from those who have earned that wealth? Surely this is a joke.

You aren't entitled to someone else's private property (including money) simply because you have less than them. There are a myriad of reasons you don't have the same level of wealth, hence why the class system works so well.

I worked to support myself and my family - not a bunch of lazy bums who think they deserve something for nothing. Look no further than Communist China, ever wonder why the quality of good they produce is so dismal? Not only do they have no motivation for hard work, but there is also no assurance that the most qualified candidate for a job will get that job (since they're all considered "equal" - when people clearly are not all equal in skills/knowledge/talent/intelligence/resourcefulness)

Once again, forced redistribution can never happen in this country provided we retain our weapons. Our schools clearly need to do a better job with the next generation, because this one actually believes the crap that falls out of their collective mouths. It is so important to teach children the value of capitalism and personal success/responsibility. No one is responsible for your success other than yourself - if you fail at life, it is because you are a failure not that the system has failed you. Look no further than the many billionaires/millionaires that have "made it" or the American middle class who is living the American dream.

Your failures are your own responsibility/problem, and it is squarely on your shoulders to clean up your own messes. All handouts need to end. The fact that some people believe they're somehow entitled to even basic survival necessities is laughable. You aren't entitled to anything here, but we do have private charities to handle some of those cases.

Good luck though, if this is truly their plan. They'll need it, trust me.

There is a difference between 'communist dictators' like, Mao, Stalin etc and the ideology of Communism, which seeks to abolish the state, social classes, money etc

which would mean no leaders or state/governments etc

Democracy itself is evil enough without the socialism component.

Mob rule = tyranny of majority.

Our system is a Constitutional republic, and representative democracy. We are a democracy inasmuch as electing representatives who then legislate according to popular will fully constrained by the Constitution.

We already have more socialism in this country than we can handle (hence the disgusting national debt), and has caused government to inflate beyond its only purpose of providing for the national defense and ensuring Constitutional compliance.

To accomplish socialist goals, a large and invasive government is required. That is exactly why it is unacceptable.

The problems you allege we face are not worth solving if it requires giving up even a smidgon of sovereignty/self-determination.

Exactly, which leads to mob rule (rule by majority). It leads to abolition of the Constitution as well, which is entirely unacceptable. The millions of patriots in this country (including our armed forces) would just as soon die before laying down before such a tyranny.

Beyond that, we both know full well that these communists would form their own pseudo-state that supresses its opposition through violence (like every single communist/socialist regime has done).

No thanks. 400,000,000 firearms in this country say to politiely take communism and bury it back where it belongs. If you really want to live under an oppressive regime, move to China/North Korea/Venuzuela/Brazil/etc. America will go ahead and remain a Constitutional republic, a free society and a beacon of liberty and justice.

Brave American heroes killed communists in Vietnam/Korea, and will surely kill them again if our Republic is threatened. Historically, those on the opposing side of individual civil rights have lost and communism/socialism will once again be defeated & driven back to third world banana republics.

This is a blessing in disguise for America. Republicans might now appreciate how precious it is to have House/Senate/WhiteHouse, and start getting the big projects passed. Starting with Tax-Cuts for the majority of Americans.

Can't go any WORSE for them than KANSAS and the "conservative utopia" they've created.

How's that working out for ya, Kansas?

Be interesting to see an experiment on the OTHER end of the specturm.

Kansas government isn’t doing all that well. But the economy is and unemployment in Kansas has been below the national average for a long time now.

The constitution is nothing but a spook, talk about tyranny, yet people worship some piece of paper with dead people dictating on "rules" of how you can be "Free"... imagine being so spooked that is your worship

In a communist society, it would be 'direct democracy' not 'representative democracy' or community consensus etc. tyranny of the majority is really not different to how it is now, you get a "Vote" but it is really up to representatives and the electoral college that end up deciding for you.

As far as the 'State" goes, yeah, with communist/socialist dictators they would solidify power and run 'state-communism/socialism' etc, but, communist ideology wants all that abolished.

I'm not a communist though, I am an anarchist
