I said on the other thread, I was 3-4 blocks away when this happened. I work in the general area. We could hear the sirens, and saw the police helicopters. Crazy. I think it is really important for those straddling the fence on firearm issues to realize that criminals/terrorists will always find a deadly weapon to use in their attacks.

The effort to limit or otherwise restrict firearms for mature & law abiding citizens is never the right answer.

Your post is a funny albeit true representation of the hypocrisy of gun bans. Criminals and terrorists will continue to acquire deadly weapons to use in illegal ways against innocent and unsuspecting people. Clearly removing the most efficient means for these innocent individuals to protect their lives is not the solution here. LEOs do an excellent job, but there will simply never be enough of them. They are truly a rare few, and deserve the utmost respect but there is simply no way (especially in large cities) to ensure a response quick enough to prevent the deadly attack.

If you can personally live with that risk, then make the individual choice not to carry. But don't impose your will onto others, because plenty of people are standing up to this violence and legally arming themselves against it. By attempting to pass laws restricting this practice (such as opposing national concealed carry reciprocity and stand your ground laws), you only make it more difficult for the innocent to defend themselves against terrorists and criminals.

I treat all potential threats the same, regardless of their motivation or driving ideology. Criminals, terrorists, violent mobs, whatever the danger is, all want to impose an unlawful degree of violence that rises to the level of a life threatening attack. Proportional force is a reasonable and responsible answer to such violence, including lethal force to prevent a life threatening attack.

Law abiding citizens are not the ones killing innocent people. Attempting to control criminals through legislation is reactive at best, and does nothing to prevent their acquisiton of some deadly weapon or the deadly attack they mount using such weapon.
