It seems that (all? most?) punctuation and/or non-alphanumeric characters are stripped when used in thread titles. This appears to be by design.

Just out of curiosity, why would this be?

(and avoiding messing up the whole page because of some special char combinations that wreak unintented havoc)

As long as the same characters are not allow in the posts. otherwise the same filtering could be applied to both, I would think.

There is a specific bug that if you use two certain chars in a row, the following up content is going to be hidden / scrambled. If that happens on the thread listing forum pages (in the title, not the post/op), you can imagine the grief.

IIRC, the symbols and punctuation cause some problem in titles and are not allowed.

The only punctuation allowed in titles is .... and ---

It's funny how ... and ---, along with caps, can be used in some kind of combination to replace all of the other methods to punctuate.

Personally, I enjoy the challenge.

I also enjoy a challenge...
And once you know which are allowed, it makes titles easier to do.

I smell a conspiracy ...

On a site run by an individual that calls themselves Skeptic Overlord ...

Only the punctuation/symbol S (...) and O (---) are allowed.

It ALL makes so much sense now ....
