Oh hey look, politics is yet again somewhere it has no business being... The hygiene aisle!

Only this time, their social justice aspirations completely misses the mark and ends up landing somewhere back on their own faces. The picture above was posted to their social media accounts, and while I can kind of see what their intention was (Michael Jackson's 'Black or White' video?), their approach and execution was absolutely horrible and very short-sighted. Who in their right mind, in a company as big as Dove no less, thought this was a good idea?

The beauty of freedoms is it allows idiots 'not very intelligent' people to expose themselves. Go freedoms.

Some of the reactions are gold.

Oh Dove..

Hey look, even the bottles are diverse!

Some of those bottles look very inefficient.

That is the first thought that comes to mind about this.

I feel like I'm missing something here. What about the Dove advertisement was social justice warrioring?

The fact that it had a ginger in it? Redheads are people too you monster!

But yes, epic epic fail.

I use the term "SJW" pretty loosely, pretty much anything that pushes or advocates for social progressiveness. That's not to say I am against social progressiveness. I believe there are ways to do it properly, but what we see now a days is nothing short of cringe.

One might say you're using it almost too loosely, you Nazi. If a mainstream advertisement featuring a black model is "progressive," then we're in a worse state of affairs than I imagined. I'm thinking that might have been the standard for progressive in the 50's or 60's.

It has nothing to do with the fact she is a black model. It is the fact they are even politicizing their brand by trying to promote diversity. I'm all for diversity, but this was an epic fail so i threw it in the "SJW" category with all the other massive fails.

YOU Nazi..

I mean, why not right? They might as well as they've already reached the point of no return.

HaAAaAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAAA!

Oh my hells, that cracked me up hard. I don't think it's fair to conflate this with an "SJW" effort (unless you are one of those types who thinks including a black person is SJW).

This is freakin' hilarious. I feel terrible for whoever green-lit this thing. Still laughing.

I don't understand what the product is or what it does.

I don't understand the Ad either.

Can someone please explain what this is supposed to do and/or be?

Thanks.

why wouldn't they use diverse models? they want to capture a diverse market share. that's not social justice activism, that's marketing.

i'm not sure you know what you're on about, sometimes.

Lol. Dove is soap and other things. The picture implies that the product improves you by making you white. There are old Dove ads that did the same thing and they have a legacy of racist ad campaigns.

What is sad is that they've done some great work in trying to counter it but then come out with this.
