That raises questions.

I think the most likely answer is in my post before the tweets.

But, who knows really?

Very ominous developments today... Bigger than NFL, Russian Interference, etc..

Rex Tillerson, America's top diplomat, disclosed at the weekend that the US is in "direct contact" with Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programmes.

The State Department said North Korea had shown no interest in dialogue.

"I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man," Mr Trump wrote on Twitter. "Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!" he added.

Won't be any 'talking' . Talking occurs between two equal parties.

The 'Talks' are just cover for Ultimatums, threats and intimidation.

Like the US does all the time with other countries;

First drag their economy in the dirt with sanctions, demonize them in the World Press, surround them militarily with bases and aircraft carriers, then say, Wanna Talk"?

Trump issues threats and ultimata from the safety of his PJs. The State Department negotiates. Unfortunately, whatever Tillerson and his aides may be accomplishing will probably be undermined by Trump's tweets. My gut tells me that Tillerson will be the first cabinet secretary to quit without being forced to by scandal.

Maybe they're playing good-cop bad-cop like roles, ultimately giving Tillerson more leverage in possible negotiations with North Korea?

Nah, they can't be that brilliant, can they?

This is exactly what is happening. It's glaringly obvious. Diplomacy stands no chance if they know you won't take another course if the diplomacy fails. Otherwise, what incentive do they have to negotiate?

I saw that on Twitter. Trump must have developed what he'd probably call "insult diplomacy." It won't work with Kim and will most likely anger him enough to start WW3.

I always thought a pre-emptive strike, even though it's not the preferred option, would be the best one to control Kim's threats against us and our allies. But if Trump's war of words keep up and if he keep saying stuff like "they won't be around much longer" and 'we'll do what has to be done," Kim will probably think his ONLY option would be a massive first strike.

Somehow I don't think that China will stop Kim. Nope.

You ever stop to think thats the idea? To get Korea to shoot first would be Ideal as far as military planning goes.

Same thing happened in ME. Saddam was tricked into attacking Kuwait, then used as pretext to invade Iraq.

Rense
You don't want to even wait for that.. You go so far as to suggest preemptive strike.

What a warmonger.

I wonder if Trump is taking his marching orders from all the generals on his staff. Why would he shoot down diplomatic efforts? What an incredible buffoon. At this point it is as if he doesn't even want to try.. he wants conflict with NK. All his tweets until this point.. and then undermining his own staff who is trying to do one of the only sane things we -should- be doing with NK.

Being nice to Rocket Man hasn't worked in 25 years, why would it work now? Clinton failed, Bush failed, and Obama failed. I won't fail.

That would be disturbing if Trump was a globalist.

But, nah...he can't be. Right hand to god he is the racist, xenophobic, islamaphobic, American-loving nationalist that CNN says he is.

So, I am sure that tweet is helping avert thermonuclear war.

Wisemen don't pick fights, bullies do.

He's going to get us into conflict with China, unlike every other president since Truman.

What a dipstick.

Rejoice ! , common sense would seem to have prevailed as Rex Tillerson has said while on his visit to China that the US are in in direct contact with North Korea and are looking to instigate dialog with the leadership , WW3 may have just been postponed or hopefully averted.

Trump is hell bent on taking out Lil Kim.

Trump tweets:

I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man......Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!

"we'll do what has to be done!" Militarily would be my guess.

Trump tweets:

"I won't fail."

A very telling, and quite concerning, statement.

If Tillerson can negotiate something, it will make Trump look good. Trump should hope diplomacy works, but he's just as egotistical and nuts as Lil Kimmie.

I don't think there's ever been a Secretary of State who has thrown in the towel, and admitted that diplomacy with North Korea didn't stop them from developing nuclear weapons.

Tillerson's State Department essentially "threw in the towel" on negotiating with North Korea last night, but Rex himself has yet to do so.

Kind of amazing that his spokesperson says that North Korea is not willing to negotiate nuclear disarmament, while Rex keeps hoping spouting "hope", like all Secretary of States before him... back to/including the Bush administration.

Well today it was revealed the media embarrassed themselves again, Tillerson never thought about resigning and there's no problem between him and the President.

There was also a report on Fox that this "line of communication" he spoke of between the US and NK is primarily to do with the status of the 3 Americans being held by NK. They aren't negotiating the nuclear situation through that channel.

Is it possible that Trump is using a version of Nixon's "madman theory"?

I call it the Madman Theory, Bob. I want the North Vietnamese to believe I've reached the point where I might do anything to stop the war. We'll just slip the word to them that, "for God's sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about communism. We can't restrain him when he's angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button" and Ho Chi Minh himself will be in Paris in two days begging for peace.

It seems I'm not the first person who has thought of this possibility.

I think Trump's goal is simply for North Korea to understand that dropping the posturing and engaging in diplomacy is their best option, because he's not #ing kidding about the military option.

Possible, yes. I just don't see it as probable or likely.

Personally, I don't think Trump thinks or plans that far ahead or that cleverly.

But I have been wrong before.
