What if ATS didn't do politics

I wasn't sure if this was the best forum for this question so...

What if ATS opted out of political issues altogether? Would it sink? Would we all breathe a sigh of relief?

It's purely a theoritical question really. I appreciate many people are politically minded and rightly so as politics has such a dramatic influence on this world, and yes, it does have its own conspiracy aspects.

But, still, interested in how ATSers would respond to these forums having no political threads (which may be difficult, sometimes, as politics can invegal themselves everywhere).

What say you?

Traffic would go way down. Revenue for the owners would go way down. I mean, why do you think they refuse to create a tab where political forums can be kept in their own "recents" stream?

However, quality of conversation would go way up.

Don't think you can have a conspiracy site without politics. Government and politics is the driving force behind UFO research as well.

I understand why you bring it up, but no, I don't think it would be good for this site to ban all political threads.

It would seep into all the other interesting forums IMO. Not to mention lose traffic. Great for some folks, bad for owners.

What if Elon musk would buy ATS or Tony stark ?
Serious : ATS needs politics ... revenues , but well it shouldn't be.

But the result is that I don't consider ATS a Conspiracy site anymore , it's entertainment , a political outlet maybe propaganda or even a massive psy-op. Still fun though with very nice members and handsome mods.

Bad idea. The programs and wars dreamed up by politicians affect us all.

I've come across other forums on the internet that rarely touch on politics, MrCrow.

The topics on ATS are controlled by what people want to write about.
If political issues were banned, they would not start writing about other things instead.
If people have lost interest in writing about other things, that may be partly blamed on the non-event of 21/12/2012 (the effects of which were visible within a few months).

Although it would be refreshing if threads couldn't be strictly political, you can't seperate politics from all the other conspiracys...so it would be a dead zone

i think it would be fair to say it is controlled by what the majority of people want. like everywhere else.

like at the supermarket. you get those brands what the majority buys and contributes to most profit. i know there are a lot of people who like my preferences also, but we are not in the majority.

It would be nice if the political threads were more than a copy and paste of MSM articles and included some analysis and fresh perspective, but at the moment they appear to be more about pushing articles from the MSM in a propaganda war.
There's not much that you can't read on CNN or FOX, etc. We're still very much in the post-November 8th 2016 phase of coming to terms with who won an election. Maybe that will change in time.

The reason for the grumbling (I would class myself as an observer rather than a grumbler), is that thread content is controlled by the majority of writers, not by the majority of readers.
The flaw in your analogy is that supermarket customers have some indirect influence, through the purse, on what is offered for sale; but ATS readers have no other way of influencing what is offered for their reading. If unwilling readers go elsewhere, the writers do not suffer.

yeah you're right. i see my point of error. thanks. i had readers and writers combined; that writers write about things they and their followers would like to read in the communications overall.

their mouths are open.

The only defense is turning the sound down. Or changing the channel.

Didn't you know? Everything's political. Everything. So no politics would be nothing. Shut down the site. Nothing to see here.
