I find this amusing

About a year ago there were all kinds of ATS members complaining about how political correctness was "ruining our country", now today (thanks to the media handing it to us on a silver platter) those same members are calling for football players to be fired or suspended for not standing for the national anthem.

Does anyone see the irony in this? A year ago being PC was the bane of America's existence, today being non-PC (kneeling for the anthem) is a huge deal to those same people.

This isn't about the kneeling, it's about people being wilfully ignorant to their own hypocrisy.

And I'm sure there are members who were all for PC back then but against it now.

I think it's sad how the media manipulates people into cognitive dissonance so easily. Make them so hypocritical that they refuse to see it. They're following the playbook flawlessly.

I wonder what the next week long (non)issue the media will serve up to us? It's sure to be all over ATS until they switch gears yet again for the next drama laden talking point.

You can be non-PC, but only if it's the correct kind of non-PC.

That guy who worked at Google and talked about why there weren't more women working in technical fields? He was non-PC too, but he was fired for it, and a lot of the same people who think this NFL thing is wonderful were also all on board with that guy being fired for how horribly non-PC he was.

So, IMO, being non-PC is only acceptable if it's the PC kind of non-PC.

To me, there is no consistency on this for anyone. Either we can all be non-PC about everything and all issues, or we can't be non-PC about anything. You can't just clap like a barking seal when it's the kind of non-PC you approve of personally.

So what is the NFL's stance on this? Do they think America is a horrible, institutionally racist country (what the flag protests are all about) or what?

I'm leaning towards it being an attention span issue. People are just sitting in anticipation of the next drama to get sucked into.

Exactly. Reality TV has made us addicted to drama and they're capitalizing on that addiction. Luckily they had a reality TV star become president so that our "drama-lust" could be fed.

What gives you the moral high ground to be superior to those you disagree with? I notice it doesn't stop you from posting in topics you don't agree with and trying to make the OP feel bad by posting what they feel is relevant or important to their beliefs.

Sorry, but if there is a topic that you do not like, don't participate in it. No one is forcing you to and whether you realize it or not, by participating in it you are actually complicit in forcing the topic to the top of the trending topics.

Which is exactly why they distract us with non-issues. Nothing ever changes and people seem to be all about fighting over things that have no consequences or purpose.
