Removing contrast? If they are bad, they are bad. Those who commit violence beget violence. Therefore botch instigators of violence were as bad as the other. Just because somebody may have NAZI views does not make their violence worst when responding to the violence against them. To be honest it sounds like the other side is trying to downplay their violence by pointing out somebodies beliefs and saying they should not be included for blame even when they physically begat the first assault.

One is worse than the other.

Relativism is the last defense of the indefensible.

no i m sorry, one my be morally worse in their beliefs, but they are both equals when it comes to sharing responsibility for violence. That is what our POTUS was trying to point out. But because one has #ty beliefs, does not justify taking violent action against them. Those who throw a punch in first strike, are vile for instigating violence. They do not become less worse just because they disagree with the # morals of the one they are attacking. If they continue to attack while the victim flees or simply tries to escape, then they are in fact far worse. If the other defends themselves from being attacked with violence, then they have every right to do so.

Once it becomes a free for all of fighting between everybody, everybody is equally responsible for the violence.

And yet, only one group went to violence. I didn't see any leftists getting in cars and mowing people down. In fact, I don't see any Democrats trying to pass laws to allow them to legally do such a thing. That's not to say that Democrats are without fault, or that Antifa doesn't go too far at times. But in Charlottesville only one side was on the side of violence.

The comment about responsibility was in regard to the general brawling that took place, it was not in reference to the single individual who saw fit to take a life. He is eternally and universally condemned for that.
That incident however, does not absolve those who did instigate violence from the counter demonstrations. If we are going to compare the assaults by the counter protestors to the killer, then yes he is worse for he took a life.

But the comparison is between the two opposing crowds who ended up in blows prior to the vehicular manslaughter. In that regard, they are equals.

Not really.

You off someone during a bank robbery, you are criminally liable for an offence against one state, one nations people, no matter which walk of life they are from. You off someone over the colour of their skin or their religion, and you commit a crime against this whole species.

The penalty should be harsher, and delivered more swiftly.
