hese incredible pictures show the awesome beauty of science. From more than 3,500 entries, judges at the Royal Photographic Society Images of Science Competition have named these as the best. Winners include the jaw-droppingly detailed picture of a pork tapeworm, an amazing glimpse at the experiment trying to unlock the secrets of the universe and a unique perspective of a glowstick. Most of the pictures are not usually visible to the human eye and can only be captured with specialist equipment. They show the natural world at its most complex, offering seldom seen detail of their subjects. The competition was open to both professional and amateur photographers who were tasked with taking a picture that told a story about science.
