Are your natural thoughts positive or negative?

I'm curious to see people's response to this question...

By "natural thoughts" I mean thoughts that just come to your head effortlessly, and you don't try to manipulate it into lighter or positive thoughts.

The reason I ask is that I see my mind is generally negative by its own accord, maybe it's because I'm a virgo and I have a stronger tendency for self-criticism and perfectionism. There are constant worries over the future, mainly financial issues, etc.

I remember even when I had really good time, by myself or with a great company, I would still be drawn to negative thinking at some point later on.

I do have positive and cheerful thoughts and I enjoy them, but they are not more common than the negative ones.

When you consider that, thoughts have everything to do with our mental health. Though we can't choose our thoughts, and we can't force or fake thoughts like most of the "Law Of Attraction" gurus are teaching. I've tried that for many years, it's just not natural and you end up more miserable than you were because you are in a constant battle with your natural thoughts while not accepting reality.

So how is your mind treating ya? Again this is not a question of whether you are happy or miserable in life, but the natural way of how your thoughts happen, effortlessly.

Thanks for reading.

I used to be overtly negative due to circumstance and my view of the world. Now i simply just observe everything, without judgement which is, at times difficult, but possible. Perfectionism is a virgoan curse, and hell to deal with at times. It's much easier to step back and allow what you're focused on to reveal itself. Observation is more powerful than reaction.

I agree it does feel great to be the observant rather than reacting to each thought. It was easier when I meditated a lot, I just don't find it easy to sit and be watchful these days.

Do you find it easier to observe everything not just for a period of time (days, weeks, months), but in general? Has it been persistent?

Hi Shuye.

Your OP s very interesting. You write very eloquently and your thought processes are very intelligent. You are showing that you are able to analyze and rationalize in a very clear way to the point of refinement. It is actually very attractive, too.

I am cursed by the Virgo curse, too. I am Cancerian, but nearly all my family are Virgo. The people who I engage with most successfully are Virgos (my long standing best friend is a Virgo, too). However, there is friction. It is rather strange that friction walks hand in hand with successful interaction. I have had "lullaby" friends who whisper sweet nothings, but they have dispersed like pretty rainbow bubbles in the air as a matter of rule. There is something inherently honest and truthful about Virgos. You are really hard to deal with, espesh for a Cancerian, yet worth it big time.

It may be that you are drastically underscoring yourself. If indeed you do have negative thoughts then you are dealing with them most effectively and transforming. Perhaps these are the dynamics of the Virgo personality, but as you say this is your personal strategy. You are analyzing because of the discomfort of the negative thought experiences that are outside of your immediate control. You transform the negativity through analysis and appreciate the wider perspective.

Yep, you are like my family members and my best friend, too.

EDIT: I have wildly positive thoughts as a rule, but they require serious "editing". I mess up so much because of wanting to impose my super duper unrealistic vision upon the world. I desperately need the shackles and reason of the Virgo mind. I wish I had a Virgo partner. I often joked with my best friend that I wish I could find a female version of him. However, Virgo women do not seem attracted to bundles of emotion like me. I think they do like the challenge of all that fuzzy chaos though perhaps. I know I do wind up all those nearest and dearest. My Dad, Brother and Sister (twins) and my brother's wife are all Virgos. Two Virgos in one relationship yet by Jove, it works. They are a force to be reckoned with as a couple. If any same sign couple could emerge victorious it would have to be Virgo.

I've taught myself how to turn off my thoughts, that nagging voice i've heard since childhood. After turning it off, now all i hear is silence and i wouldn't trade the peace for all the gold in the world. Observing everything around me, is like being outside of yourself. Disconnected, and it's the best thing that's ever happened, it's ongoing, an extension of myself but in a kind of awakened state.

I'm a happy dude who loves life. But I always go black, childhood trauma I guess. I've learned to recognize it and look beyond. Oh well we all are handicapped in some way.

If i were posed with how to describe a Virgo, honesty and truthfulness would be it, hands down, along with being trustworthy and decisive, never changing.

Thanks for your warm message, I don't have close Virgo friends but I can imagine how hard it is sometimes to deal with such analyzing freaks.

We are indeed loyal to our causes. Interesting how you've described the transformation of negativity through analysis, it didn't cross my mind but I can definitely see how the analyzing contribute to the processing and letting go of the negativity, which is perhaps the reason we dwell in such activities in the first place.

P.S. Glad someone finds it attractive.

Have you noticed the Crescent Moon? It is more than just coincidence. I love to see psychology at work like this so obviously. Astrology is very strange.

Bless you all.

Lol, I even have a tattoo of a mermaid on my arm with the Crescent Moon as in Saphire's avatar.

That's so cool.

I really know how it feels, that peace is really the best thing imo in terms of our human experience. Wish I could prolong these moments though I easily feel I'm being dragged around by the monkey mind, unless I'm in a meditation retreat or such a very peaceful and relaxing environment.

It may be my own observation, but i've never met a virgo who was extrovert. I prefer the quiet, and the peace to the chaos of damnable sound.

My initial reaction to virtually everything is negative. For years and years I thought that I couldn't do anything about it, thought it was correct. Eventually I learned that I could counteract the negativity in appropriate circumstances. Meditation and daily self-appraisal has aided in this. Over the years, as I've fed less energy to the negativity, it has decreased. How well I do with this ebbs and flows. Although I'm not a Christian, I've found the book, "The Sermon on the Mount" by Emmet Fox quite helpful as well.

I know you're not asking for a spiritual or religious take on this, but I'll give one anyway.

In Islam, that negative voice is Shaytan/Satan. The Qur'an even refers to him w/terms such as "the sneaking whisperer", like in Surah 114, An-Naas (Mankind), (pickthall translation).

1. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
2. The King of mankind,
3. The God of mankind,
4. From the evil of the sneaking whisperer,
5. Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind,
6. Of the jinn and of mankind.

We basically believe that Shaytan is the source of human evil because he uses the power of suggestion to get people to do negative things. He doesn't have the power to turn into a 200 ft tall, bat-winged, goat hooved, eagle taloned, fire breathing, super muscular, red skinned, horned monstrosity. Otherwise he'd be doing that as we speak. Instead, he has the power to whisper to humans & convince us that those negative/sinful thoughts are our own thoughts.

People that look for everything wrong with the world are doing that to make them feel better, by comparison.

My natural thoughts are analytical. I am always analyzing things. My natural thoughts would be considered boring to most people. As long as I have something to learn I am happy, I get bored if there is no information around....unless I am drinking.

I'm a positive thinking person.
Always look to the bright side of things. Always looking for light in the darkness.

Ummm...I am of the light...from light I was born...In light I flourish...to the light I will one day return...

My natural and secret thoughts are positive...My nature is to uplift...

When I return to center...release the shackles...the burdensome dregs of the day...when I wash my mind clean of the detritus that living in an inimical universe requires...there in my most secretive self...I burn bright...

One day...when all of life has been lived...I too will journey home...

"It is better to be a light...within the light"...
