My daughter and I were passing threw Ottawa the other day around 2 am. I needed gas and she called me racist because I drove by 7 gas stations until I found one with an attendant that wasn't sporting head gear.

Mainly I'm frustrated. I live in Kingston and over the last two years or so 90 percent of the gas stations and corner stores are now operated by people from India, same goes for the subway stores. No white people staffing them either, is that even legal? Now mac's milk stores are changing to circle K, what is that anyway?

For the longest time I had my favourite convience and gas store and enjoyed bantering with the staff, now new owners and everyone brown skinned, previous staff let go. After I make my purchase the new staff try to say 'have a good one', and when I say I have a good one just need a bigger one they have no idea what I'm talking about. Lol

It's just all the places I mostly frequented are now owned by either people from India or Chinese or there abouts, what's going on, white looking people have no money to buy these places?

I have no problem dealing with people one on one and would be the first one to pull my car over to assist ANY stranded motorist. Maybe I'm getting old and don't like change but that's it? If I'm more comfortable around people like myself am I racist, being aggravated by not having a choice in the matter.

I guess I should have posted this under RANT. lol. I guess my kids right

Go ahead, tell me I'm racist

In the UK some of our Asian shopkeepers are the best - some great banter.

However on first approach I know a couple who were not good with communicating and being approachable - why? Because they were used to being treated as lower class, or worse still, avoided.

Break the barrier and the banter will carry on as normal, in fact, it'll be even funnier because other cultures bring other angles to jokes

That said, I do see where you are coming from and my natural behavior tells me I am more comfortable with someone who is from my culture. However - I do avoid shopkeepers who I know hold terribly insulting and stone age views on women - that is not acceptable in my opinion and they are not welcome in my society.

Is the world getting to dark for you?

The world changes, time goes on and nothing is stagnant. I try to speak with people about issues like wage stagnation and inflation of housing prices and a common response is "move where it's cheaper", I could be a dick and tell you to move somewhere you're more comfortable, but maybe you should just suck it up and get your gas pumped by a Sikh

I'll tell why , each gas station is operated as a franchise .

And so , each becomes a family run business . Now , people who are influenced by Western propaganda / brainwashing , are taught NOT to rely on one's family , and to NOT stick together and act as a family , especially in the economic sense . Its why people who "still" live with their parents in the West , are shunned as being losers , who for some reason cannot fend for themselves .

Indian culture is very much different , and other ethnicities are indifferent to Western ideals and expectations . In reality , your family are the ONLY people you (should be able to) properly trust .

So , there's your reasons why you see this more and more as gas stations . In England , it's the same .

But think about it , how many of the richest organisations are family units primarily , it's loads , eg ,
the mafia , the royal families , the Rothschild family , the triads , the adams family , the Trumps , and so so many more

Check this list : it includes The Waltons , who run Walmart .... 21 biggest family run businesses

And don't fall victim of the media

Well you are judging gas stations based on the race of their staff, and you are deeming the non-white ones not good enough from what I can tell. Is that racist? It easily could be, or some kind of conscious bias, I'd hardly call it harmful or nefarious racism though. You don't seem to have passed it on to your daughter, whatever your hangup is.

You're judging strangers by their skin color & avoiding shopping with them strictly because of their skin color. Hmmm...

Put it like this, would you consider me racist if I only did business with "people of color"? If I refused to be served by light skinned people at stores & complained that the world was getting too pink/white/tan/blonde/freckled, would you consider me racist? Because that's how it sounds.

Luckily, you don't sound like the violent type. So I don't have a problem with it as long as you're not harming others in the process. But I think that it may end up hurting you more than anyone else. What if your car breaks down because you can't find any gas stations operated by people who don't look like you? What if you pass out from the heat when walking to get gas for your car, but the people who come by to help you are "people of color"? Will you still refuse them? The only ones you're hurting in these types of situations would be yourself and the people who care about you.

Besides, people from every demographic can have good banter or horrible banter. There are misogynists and feminists in every demographic; funny and lame people in every demographic; rude and polite people in every demographic, etc. Once again, the only one who's missing out on this is you because you won't even give others a chance if they don't look a certain way.

And my wife told me I had been living with WHITE privilege and I didn't even know it. I told her, Clinton lost the election and for Gods sake get a damn grip on it. A side note, when Sydney Crosby took the Stanley Cup to Cole Harbor to a Tim Hortons restaurant, he showed it to the entire staff of the restaurant. I noticed that those were not lilly white Canadian kids working in that kitchen. I guess you guys to the North have a lot of those jobs NO ONE WANTS TO DO, like here in Murica. But the front of the restaurant staff was a lilly white as bed sheets.

Isn't it a little racist to disclude a single demographic in favor of another?Like the thread allowing only black people to get a scholarship but not white'. Or shutting down a seminar because there's too many white people (that's another thread

It's not racist to have an opinion or a preference in my opinion. But if you're being racist for reasons other than equality, then you're probably racist.

Yeah. I'm in Brampton which is predominantly south Asian. Carlin quotes don't fly. I have no problem with them except the accent of some. A dollar thirty five and a dollar twenty five sounds identical. It's irritating to give them a buck and a quarter and have them holding out their hand still and asking for what you just gave them, as far as your hearing goes.

I'd say you're more traditionalist than what I would consider a racist - you may hold someviews that come across as a little bit racist, but you have every right to spend your money at any business you want - it's not as if you're seeking to cause any verbal or physical confrontation or any form of harm - just not as young as you used to be and society moves on (same with people all over the world). She has a point but it seems to me your ideals are formed from 'back in the day' rather than 'white power' or the like.

True that. Met and befriended many a local shopkeeper and seen them go from not being able to speak much English to being quick witted, funny and friendly within six months due to hard work and wanting to provide good service, plus learnt quite a bit of Hinglish, Hindu, Urdu and Arabic comebacks and pleasantries in the process. Even kicked out customers who started hurling racist insults/pushing over crisp packet stands after the owner rightfully asked them for ID when buying alcohol or fags.

A minority aren't interested at all, and there's one guy at Lidl I actively tell acquaintances to avoid as he's got a habit of looking down his nose at everyone in general (likes to wind people up by refusing to move the conveyor belt, isn't done on racial/sexual profiling - he's just a bit of a twat) so best avoided as would rather queue up a few seconds more than be subject to that or financially support that behaviour.
