I worked all day at a grocery store in supposed affected area and there were no problems with EBT cards today. But if there were problems in some areas maybe due to solar flares heading our way the next few days? Maybe getting some a little early?

The solar flares might be affecting some contards brains.

Unfortunately, you are very correct on that.

Snap/EBT is a Godsend to many in desperate need--which is its sole intent. It isn't meant to be an f'n lifestyle choice.

I know of at least two families that use this rather than work. I know he's capable of working, because I used to work with him...he quit because EBT provided him with enough to eat, sleep, and play video games, while his girlfriend uses hers to, the cash aspect of EBT, to pay the rent.

The vast majority do use the system as its always been intended, but there is fraud throughout the system. What's odd is I'm one of those folks who is among the working poor, yet oddly, I make far too much money to qualify--yet I live paycheck to paycheck. But my family and I have combined our resources and we make it work. When we relocate to Tennessee in a few weeks (knockin' on wood), garden room, acreage for hunting are prime considerations.

Not once did I EVER consider taking welfare/EBT. I rather starve to death than rely on taxpayers/government to support me. Its called pride,

It's called stupidity.

Anybody who would rather starve than use the system they've been paying taxes into is stupid. You think "pride" should prevent single moms from feeding their children? No. If they did, I'd call them stupid and evil.

While I can't speak for all corporate CEO's, I do know, or knew--it's been a few years, they're probably retired--at least five CEO's from rather large international corps who do work their respective hineys off...

One of them, in the last year I worked for him, slept in his own bed for two months out of the entire year. The rest of the time he was either in foreign lands selling his product (seafood), or helping us catch, and process, his product. Or on an airplane going to do those things.

The others were very much the same. Frankly, that's the reason I got out when I did...that's way, way too much like work. Hard work, at that. Just because they don't swing a hammer, or stand on their feet for 18-20 hour days for months on end, like I did, that in no way should imply that they don't work. I was climbing that ladder, and I saw the man-killing stress many of those CEO's endure. That stress was one reason I went back to the plant floors, and the warehouse management.

Except sometimes there's a reason they can't. Did you consider that?

Yes, there's fraud. I've seen it. But there's also folks, like my late father, who needed it because his military pension and SS didn't quite go far enough. With his disabilities due to that military service late in life he flat wasn't able to garden, or hunt/fish to supplement that...so, EBT was a God send for him.

My oldest sister just had a stroke, she's unable to work, and probably won't be able to ever again...she's 64--guess what, EBT. There are hundreds of thousands, maybe more, who need EBT in order to survive.

They're more than willing to work. They've worked their entire damned lives, but now can't. My tax dollars go to support EBT...and in spite of the fraud, I've no problem with that. Certain individuals? Yes, obviously. But overall, nope.

Stupidity? No. Pride. There is a difference.

But, I suppose, there's a reason pride is one of the seven deadly sins.

They're not.

EBT comes with two "sides". One side is for food, unprepared food for the most part, though there are exceptions; the other "side" is considered to be cash... Most stores will accept EBT to buy tobacco products, cold medicine, and will give a limited amount of actual cash back--though some will not give back cash, you have to go to an ATM.

So, technically, they aren't buying non food items with food stamps... Technically.

The cash side was intended, originally, to help people to pay bills--and, I suppose, many still use it that way. My oldest sister makes her EBT scream every month...it's amazing watching her shop.

Do you think single moms should plan their futures better before they just start having unprotected sex?

Oh, no they aren't.

As I explained earlier, my last post, EBT comes with two sides. One side, you can not get cash back, ever. The system simply will not allow it.

The other you can get cash back on purchases--it's the stores discretion, though I don't know any chain store that doesn't give cash back--usually a limited amount @200 max. Or you can go to an ATM and get however much is on the card.

"Free money", I've heard it called, more than once. Pisses me off pretty much every time I hear it, too.

Moving from Wash to Tenn? That's quite the haul.

May I ask why? Just curious what draws someone in the PNW to Tenn of all places.

You know what? As long as people are doing what they themselves can? No one should have an issue, frankly.

Family, mostly. I've friends in the region, as well. ...and real estate is amazingly cheaper in Tenn., South Carolina, etc...than it is in the PNW.

I'm looking at a little do it yourself farm up in the Great Smokies--10 acres, three bedrooms, needs a little TLC, for right at 75 grand. Same thing here? 250 grand, or more, depending upon location.

That's it, in a nutshell. That and there are, by several accounts, some rather good jobs available in my skill set.

Sounds good. Good luck with it all.

Never been to Tenn but just looked up some houses in the area you're moving to on zillow and it's pretty, quite scenic.

You do realize things like divorce and abandonment are things, right? Why don't you ask the dead beat dads that question?

You'd all be amazed at how many people bash programs like SNAP, and then magically one day find themselves standing in line, turning in their paperwork during hard times.

You never hear from those people though.

Its not always the man's fault. Women are just as capable as men of screwing up a relationship. Women can't always play the victim. Either way, maybe women should learn to be a better judge of character.. I've seen the low life scum women find "attractive" and have multiple kids with...

looks like a trial run to me to see how the masses behave under this particular cirucumstance and how they can use that or to idnetify what modifictions are required to suit their plan.

Same here, I believe I make too much money to qualify but only make 10$ an hour. Yet I see other low-wealth working folks using the cards. I'm fine with not qualifying but get a sense that others are cheating the system.
