Seoul: N. Korea believed to have conducted 6th nuclear test

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea likely conducted its sixth nuclear test Sunday, South Korea's military said after detecting a strong earthquake near the North's main nuclear test site. Hours earlier, Pyongyang claimed its leader had inspected a hydrogen bomb meant for a new intercontinental ballistic missile.

If the quake was indeed the result of a nuclear test, its magnitude indicates it may have been North Korea's most powerful detonation yet. That could mean a significant step forward in the North's quest for a viable nuclear missile capable of striking anywhere in the United States.

Looks like a magnitude 6.3 was recorded by USGS and S. Korea detected a 5.6 magnitude. S. Korea, originating in N. Korea. So N. Korea appears to have conducted a new nuclear test in violation of UN resolutions. This might be the red line they were warned about from the US as well as China. China on the other hand says they detected a 2nd 4.6 magnitude event however S. Korea stated their data doesnt show that.

Should be interesting to see ho this turns out.

North Korea announcer on live stream confirms that it was a successful test, and that it was a HYDROGEN bomb. Hydrogen is more powerful than a "traditional" nuclear bomb?

Someone with more expertise please post that photo of Kim Jong looking at his new hydrogen bomb, while a North Korean scientist explains it to him.

I believe the announcement said that it was the same type of h bomb like the one in the picture recently published and intended for an icbm.

Presstv out of Iran is also reporting they (N. Korea) conducted a hydrogen nuke test.

Japan confirmed it as well.

ETA - looks like all major media outlets from other countries are covering this as breaking news - so its confirmed.

There were reports a day or 2 ago that said Un had inspected a nuclear warhead that could be mounted on one of their missiles. Not sure about the accuracy of the report but given they did a new nuke test its possible it happened.

A team of North Korean scientists and military leaders spent 10 day in Iran last month (August). I think it's now obvious WHY they were there. Things just got a whole lot more complicated for the U.S. and our allies.

Well, we will soon see what the next move in the 'chicken' game is.
My money is on a non-nuclear but rather visible medium scale attack from a small coalition, without UN consent. After that, nuclear capability will be diminished and Kim has a very long vacation.

A couple of years back it was reported Iranian officials were present for one of N. Koreas nuke tests. Speculation at the time was the test was actually an Iranian test conducted in N. Korea (for obvious reasons).

Xcathdra, I suggest that you adjust your title to indicate that a Hydrogen bomb was detonated. That's a Big Forkin Deal.

I wonder why they always take pictures of him thinking while someone explains to him how something works? He looks a bit retarded that way...

Perhaps something a Powerpoint can solve.

How we get from earthquake to conducting H bomb test, without any other than a USGS earthquake report, is part of the problem.

I say they faked a test after 'propaganda' showing Kim inspecting metal thingy. Prove me wrong.

Unless you can show the results of testing the atmosphere for radiation that reveals a nuclear test (isotopes escape from underground no matter how deep the test), then you're just escalating tensions. Capture of any radioactive particles is done by the aircraft in the Constant Phoenix program.

According to North Korean media Un is always giving guidance. Its part of their procedure to depict Un as an all knowing leader. Designed to affect the N. Korean people to ensure loyalty.

Seismic activity is also looked at and even more so in regions that arent seismically active and that contain nuke testing facilities. We have detection planes in the region so im sure its only a matter of time before the particles are detected.

However how do you rectify your propaganda theory with Russia and China reporting the same thing? China stated they detected the seismic activity as well.

as for your metal cone comment its easy to prove you wrong when Un himself is making the claims as to what they are.
