Operation Choke Point was meant to target money launderers and unregulated payday loan predators, that have been known to be used to launder organized crime, drug dealers and terror organization funds.

What is the Trump administration going to do to curb illegal and dangerous money laundering outlets now?

Bull and SNIP.

'criminals' don't use cash anymore.

They use cryptocurrency.

Operation Choke point was created to target business's the Obama administration and his party HATED.

Institutionalized discrimination!

Operation ChokeArtist was a good example of a Nosy-Nazi operation.

It was a political operation carried out by jealous zealots.

"Perhaps if Trump had a plan in place, instead of willie nillie repealing everything Obama did, I wouldn't be so contrite. But right now, this sounds like a sweet deal for Putin and his Mafia cronies."

OMG! I thought that the Russians were all dead and here they are, back in a slightly altered form.
Don't look now, but the dirt you are attempting to throw turned to dust and sifted right through your fingers.

You guys are ignorant and naïve if you believe that dirty cash, from all over the world, isn't being laundered in the USA, and if you don't think that gangs and terrorists, domestic and foreign, don't use cash to buy weapons that fuel situations like the ones we see in Chicago, you are fools.

Operation Choke Point addressed unregulated predatory lending practices and the banks that supported them. How is Trump going to address the money laundering problem that these outlets provide to drug dealers, gangs and terrorists?

Perhaps if Trump had a plan in place, instead of willie nillie repealing everything Obama did, I wouldn't be so contrite. But right now, this sounds like a sweet deal for Putin and his Mafia cronies.

Let me propose this question to you: Why is it that everyone thinks that just because a policy existed at one point means that, if it's repealed, it must be replaced with something?

There were before and still are laws against money laundering (I deal with cases of people who break those laws nearly on a daily basis in my job), despite the existence of "Operation Choke Point." People still got busted for breaking said laws prior to the operation, and still will after.

The bottom line is that, with many things that presidents and their executive branches choose to do, there is legitimacy mixed in with politicized targeting, and just like anti-money laundering laws, this has existed before Obama, existed with him, and will continue on with Trump and any successors.

To try and pretend, though, that this OCP was the end-all to money-laundering investigations, arrests, prosecutions, and convictions is what is referred to as "hyperbole." This operation doesn't need to be replaced--the FBI and IRS will still be investigating, and the U.S. Attorneys will still be prosecuting. Let's not play make-believe and act like Trump just gave a green light to all businesses to freely launder money without consequence.

It's the other way around.

The cash laundering is alive and well just it always has been.

It's all cash and gold and diamonds.

No banks need apply.

That's what I said when Congress couldn't decide what to replace ObamaCare with. There was no ObamaCare before 2010 and the world was spinning just fine.

I never said that Operation Choke Point was the end all to all money laundering and would eliminate gangs and terrorists. But, it identified and targeted known problem areas.

Trump has a habit of repeal with no plan or replacement to address the problems that those policies were meant to confront, as if things will just run themselves. That's how we got to the point of economic collapse, believing those holding the purse strings know what's best. Trump has espoused this belief many times. He couldn't be wronger, or care less about curtailing the money that funds criminal activity.

Payday loan companies, people sending cash to PayPal accounts and GoFundMe accounts and the like are a relatively new phenomena. Old tried and true methods of tracking dirty money are as outdated Elliot Ness. If Trump is going to repeal an effort he thinks isn't working well, then he should have a plan in place to address the issue at hand.

You guys are ignorant

Some people truly are.

Take my poloniex account for example level two 'verified'.

Allows me to withdrawl $7,000 grand a day 30 days a month 7 days a week.

It's 2,000 for level one with no verification.

There are easier ways.

And it's almost untraceable.

Trump should have walked into the white house on the first day and said everything Obama did I want to undo. Make one EO saying exactly that and then walk outside announce the EO and drop the mic....

Don't get me wrong, I love my PayPal account! Progress is good!

But, remember that White Supremacist guy from the Vice documentary that cried like a baby when he found out there was an arrest warrant out on him. Law enforcement claimed that he had illegal "gas" and some other stuff I can't remember. During the Vice report, he claimed that they had stockpiled all these hundreds of weapons and gas and stuff just for that event from PayPal donations. So, PayPal suspended his account.

Personally, I think that was a good move. A slippery slope? Sure. But, if he can stockpile weapons for a White Supremacist rally through untraceable monies, what's stopping Chicago hoodlums from doing the same?

I know, you're a gun rights person, untraceable weapons to everyone! But, not all militias are looking out for your best interest.

Right........Trump doesn't want anyone investigating money laundering operations! That would be bad for business!

You're an idiot.
That is all.

I've been post banned for the exact same words, lost my "Writer" status. So now I try to articulate my opinion and feelings, you know, to add to the conversation instead of derailing it by attacking a poster's character because of their opinions.

A non story, rife with speculation...and its of course about Russians.

They even mention Madcow Maddow.

Nice try, but it doesn't prove or show anything, other then another hit piece of course. Old one too, right when the slander started picking up.
Russian angle is dead, though I'll be more then happy to remind you of that many times in the future.

Operation Choke Point is an initiative of the United States Department of Justice that was announced in 2013, which is investigating banks in the United States and the business that do with payment processors, payday lenders, and other companies believed to be at higher risk for fraud and money laundering.

What gun dealers? What legitimate gun businesses were targeted? What kind of deals were stopped? Or, were these people selling weapons to gangsters who were using drug money.

The only record of businesses that have been affected by this law, that I can see, are some banks like Wells Fargo, banks that aided payday loan companies illegally bilk unwitting people and payday loan outlets straight up.

How will the Trump administration deal with the problem? Or, is money laundering fake news?

c'mon windword....you know by now that most of the right on ATS, blame everything on democrats and liberals, even if they stretch the truth or outright lie.....so now they are in the process of making everything that Obama did anti-American and/or criminal....it's just who they are, they can't help themselves.
