Greetings ATS

Looks like we have a new PTSD

Perhaps a new entry into the DSM

So many Americans are suffering from political anxiety that doctors have coined a term for their distress — President Trump Stress Disorder. Patients are turning up in therapists' offices across the country reporting symptoms including insomnia, hypervigilance, and the inability to pull themselves away from the 24-hour news cycle.

Therapists report that their practices are more robust than ever. Deborah Cooper, a California-based therapist said she can hardly accommodate all of her patients. "I have people I have not seen in literally 30 years that have called me to come back in because of trauma," she said. "I am more than full. I am overworking."

She cited Trump's lackluster condemnation of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville as one in a string of anxiety-inducing events that are "coming too fast and furious" for her patients — and her practice — to handle.

Is there a pill for this?

What is going on in AMERICA?

Ok, now we have proof mental snowflakes exist.
And don't give me the left, right crap either.
This exists on both sides.

The instant burrito, microwave, participation trophy society we live in today has crippled people.

I profoundly disagree. It's not the folks doing their thing the best they can and being recognized for it that are the problem.

It's those folks who need the "I'm-better-than-you-are" trophy that are the problem.... the folks who cannot just live and let live because they can't feel good about themselves unless they can "beat" someone -- or everyone -- else... the folks who find their self-worth in belittling and minimizing the worth of others.

And it's pretty damn sad.

You can disagree if you wish. I won't melt.

But I will say that generations of kids being told they were all special and then getting to the real world are getting a reality check.
They have never been told no and don't know how to handle the rejection.

How bout that Social Media craze ? Folks got to have other folks tell em what to think. Cause thinking on their own is just too hard work....

How about grow up and grow a pair.

Really, the pussification of the USA has gone beyond what I could have ever imagined.

Sickening.

Which is a very different thing.... and illustrates my point. Everyone is special in their own way... It's the false notion that they are somehow "better" than others or that their wants and desires are more "worthy" than others that creates the problem.

If everyone understood that we're all "special" and that no one is more or less "special" than others, and therefore that no one has the right to impose their will on others, we wouldn't be in this damn mess to begin with.

Hence lies the problem.
Not everyone is special. Most people are just average be it looks, intelligence or athletic ability.
Telling them they are all the same is a lie.

Wrong. Since no two individuals -- even identical twins -- are exactly the same, everyone is "special." Period. By definition.

I will take it even further to say that everyone has a gift... a talent... something that they excel at/in. And that everyone is better at something (or has the potential to be) than everyone else. And, of course, no matter how good one is at something, there will always be someone better -- or with greater potential.

So yes, actually, everyone is special.

Most people are just average be it looks, intelligence or athletic ability.

Most people are probably average at most things... and there are those who are less than average at most things but excel at one thing (idiot savants for example). Think about it... who is giving out the awards? The people who want to be better than others! Just because no one is passing out awards for every virtue doesn't mean folks are less than anyone else.... and just because most people are not publicly recognized and rewarded for their virtues doesn't mean they aren't special.

Just look at Hollywood. Does anyone give themselves more awards with more public pomp and circumstance than showbiz folks??? And who buys their PR most except themselves? To the point that because they play fake people with fake emotions living fake lives, they think they are authorities on everything and everyone who can tell the rest of us what to think and do...

Telling them they are all the same is a lie.

Of course it is! But so is telling anyone that they are not special.... or telling anyone that they are more (most) special.
