I think most people remember the bakery that refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. That's obviously such a huge offence that the courts got involved and ruled that the bakery discriminated.

Today I read this article in Reuters

It's about a gym in Atlanta refusing to allow police or active military to come into the gym.

This particular statement by the owner really got me:


Jim Chambers said the rule had been in place since early 2016 when he opened the East Atlanta Barbell Club in Georgia's capital. The club advertises itself as "a radically aligned, left-friendly gym and community."

There appears to he no repercussion to this discrimination. This is an example of how f***ed up our society is now. Someone can declare their business to be " left-friendly" but a another business going by their moral ideals that gay marriage is wrong get dragged through the courts.

I know more than ever that I'm of an age that grew up with completely different values. i just cannot understand how the gym owner can be so crude and hateful and there is no law against it. I put him in the same bucket as racists and bigots.

A really feel sorry for generations to come. What sort of moral values will there be in 25 years from now? Fortunately, I doubt I'll still be here to see it.

Ummm, business's have the right to do business with who they want and if the government decides they have the authority to dictate to us how we run our business we need to throw them out and find a new government.

Tell them move to the USSR if they want to act like that.

As far as I know...

Police Officers and Military are not a protected class (i.e. Sexuality, gender or race)...
& personally I don't think they should be either.

But all I know is that when a crime happens in the vicinity of this Gym, I'd expect a delayed reaction from the Law.

What will happen when a gay, black, transsexual Cop comes in to get a membership is beyond me though...
That'd be interesting.

I thought of that too but that's the point. There was a time people weren't guided just by laws. People had better sensibilities about what constitutes good taste.

Nobody should be, at least not in the United States.

Protected classes directly violate the equal protection under the law clause of the 14 Amendment.

It's to bad that companies are getting tax breaks for hiring people of the protected class IE not white men.

I didn't believe it when I first heard it on a podcast I thought the idea was a joke but fast forward to 2017 and it's really fricken obvious.

Matter of fact I'll do a thread on it after I workout.

I think a business should be allowed to deny business to whoever they want. Police, soldiers, men, women, blacks, gays, whites, martians, and be free to reap the repercussions of such a practice.

Still a crappy thing to do though. There's a vocal minority of the left that holds little respect for men & women in uniform. I suppose sometimes it's not entirely unjustified, but your typical police officer or soldier isn't a murderous oppressive psychopath.

As far as I know, Georgia hasn't passed their "religious freedom" bills so this is kind of messed up. If they pass them, then by all means, do it.

Where I live there aren't many not white people around. I work in a field where training is optional, but experience really isn't.
Big companies have a quota to fill on how many not white employees they have, so guess who gets first dibs on a job, even with less experience?

Higher pay for less work is what it translate out to.
Must be nice to be in the protected class.

The thing I find about "cop haters" is that they're the first ones to call the Police when somebody breaks into their house or they're involved in a car accident. It's all fun and games untill someone loses an eye
