Well the media downplayed North Korea's nuclear (and all others, for that matter) capabilities because it wanted to present them as a powerless, laughable nation.

Which wasn't true.

Now they seem to have switched to telling people that the country is run by deranged psychopaths who just want to kill everyone, which also isn't true.

I guess they want to spread fear and you can't drum up propaganda about Islamic Terrorism anymore since that's racist.

How do you know that isn't what they're thinking about us as well?

North Korea would be the absolute dumbest country in the history of the world if they attacked the U.S., it is certain death for them and I don't think they're that stupid personally.

How are we any different from NK if we attack first like you say we should?

"They" as in N Koreans, are not allowed to have any thoughts on the matter or anything else, only Dear Leader's thoughts matter in N Korea. If he thinks he can get away with a launch by surviving with his regime propped up by China, there is nothing stopping him, surely not the concern over his slave citizens.

Considering how they make a huge deal out of aircraft flying routine missions near the ADIZ, they want us too scared to leave home.

Good thing he doesn't think that then. Even if he did his Generals and Advisors would warn him against such a course of action, probably get rid of him if he tried to do it.

His country isn't propped up by China either. They''re quite close of course, but the country has survived largely on it's own merits since the early 70s.

Honestly, they can get a missile into the US, what they can't do is get one into the US with a nuclear warhead yet. To get it to Chicago or points east they have to put a tiny payload on it to extend the range.

The media is all about fear. "If it bleeds, it leads." They want people to freak out over anything they can.

They're engaging in standard population control.

Nothing happens in North Korea media that Kim doesn't want the people to see. They are only aware of the perception of the US that the leaders want them to have. At the same time, they live in privation like 1984 style privation where they are told that their chocolate rations are being increased from 7 oz to 5 oz (not literally, but it's like that). Sometimes, the farmers starve so hard, they are eating grass and bark.

The North uses extreme nationalism and devotion to the perceived struggle to keep them in line and from thinking of rebelling. It gives their suffering an object and purpose. For all we know, the North is firing off missile after missile and telling them they are obliterating various great cities with each one.

But it's a mistake to think the North Korean regular populace actually know anything about what's really going on in the world beyond their borders.

North Korea might be able to hit most of the US mainland.

I might be able to finagle a three-way with Jessica Alba and Katy Perry.

I like my odds better.

You seem to know a lot about millions of people based on the actions of one man or a few men. You most likely don't know anyone from NK and most likely have never been to NK yet you seem to know how they think and feel. Are you clairvoyant?

Which General would that be exactly?

Jang Song Thaek? Not a general (a real one anyway), and he was executed by firing squad.

His advisors might tell him what China wants but I think you'll find there's a bit more to it than that.

Your ignorance on this subject is remarkable.

You know what Kim wants more than anything is probably to maintain his current lifestyle, and starting a nuclear war is somewhat counter to that desire.

Absolutely, the people in NK don't think, they are not allowed to. If they do sneak in a thought in the dead of night it doesn't matter one bit anyway. Lil Kimmie is in charge, and he has death camps.

Well that's not true either.

North Korea is largely run, for the time being, by the Military. This is thanks to Kim Jong-il's Songun policy. The Generals don't want a war with the US or South Korea.

What they want is more money for armaments, the more money they get the more they can skim off the top.

This is largely why the Military has favoured more market oriented reforms and expanding international trade.

Let's look at the neverending war that the U.S. is waging against different countries around the world, the current one being in the Middle East.

Look at the countries that the U.S. has invaded or interfered with, that should show you who the true aggressor is.

This thread is about North Korea and their ability to attack mainland USA.
North Korea has stated the desire to destroy the USA.
Yet, you are posting about something that has nothing to do with NK.
Why?
Are you good with letting NK chuck bombs at the US because you do not agree with Middle East policy?

You seem to be far from what you portray yourself to be. You are no more enlightened than those you hate.

There's a lot more to it. He has nukes and he has missiles and he has mobile launchers made in China. The years of experts telling us it won't ever happen has happened. He will never test a nuke, the UN will have inspectors, he will never get a missile, he will never get am ICBM, he will never test fire successfully, now its he will never attain reentry, he will never miniaturize. He just tested his sub launch capability, where tf did he get subs able to launch missiles?

By "He" I refer to whatever family dictator that China props up in that rogue nation.

People have stated their desire to destroy NK in this thread so I don't see your point about NK doing the same. Also, who are these people asking Kim to destroy America and where did you hear it from?

My point with the Middle East was that the U.S. is the one that is known to attack and invade other countries not NK. That point clearly went over your head.

At this point, the closest they're going to get to American soil is Alaska or maybe Hawaii. And as you stated, ICBM, maybe, nuclear tipped not yet. They tried to land one in Japan's EEZ on July 4th during their last surprise test and couldn't even do that properly.

I'm far more scared o what Trump will do to prove he has a spine than I am of anything Lil Kim could try to do. All this talk of a decapitaion strike targeting nuclear capabilities in NK is essentially a guaranteed end to Seoul and its nearly 10 million inhabitanst considering they are in easy artillery range of N. Korea. No nukes needed to destroy the Souths capitol city.
