He says America is the only country that does not guarantee healthcare for every person, leaving 28 million uninsured. Not true. There are plenty of countries that doesn't guarantee this. Also, single payer does not guarantee good quality service. See Russia, China, India. Typically, single payer in other countries only offer the most basic coverage to everyone, the most basic. They don't cover things like surgeries or cancer treatment. Single payer also have low efficiency resulting in long wait times, such as in Canada, and high bureaucracy. Also, the insurance lobby is strong in America, which resulted in the failure of Clinton's healthcare reform and the enactment of the ACA and the failure of GOP's attempt at repealing some or all of the ACA, so single payer will never be able to get through Congress.

“We are the only major country on earth, the only one, not to guarantee healthcare to all people,” he said. “The result is 28 million people who are uninsured, millions of people who are paying deductibles and copayments that are far too high.”

In a political move, Republican Senator Steve Daines had tried to force Senate Democrats to vote for-or-against single payer last week during the most recent round of health care votes. But Democrats rejected the efforts, with none voting for it and most voting “present.” Four Democrats voted no: North Dakota’s Heidi Heitkamp, West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, Indiana’s Joe Donnelly and Montana’s Jon Tester. Liberal-leaning Maine Independent Angus King also voted no.

Just more campaigning for the 2018 / 2020 elections.

Why Sanders even continues on is beyond me.

The US Congress is a joke of epic proportions. Now democrats will put forward a bill that won;t pass, then Republicans will try again ... rinse repeat the partisan merry go round.

This is what happens when extremist ideology infests a govt.

He has less than zero credibility after bending over for the Clinton machine. Even though I disagree with the guy, I would at least have some respect for him if he stood up for himself in that situation.

I thought you "liked" the Russian health care system????

A quote from your thread a few days ago www.abovetopsecret.com...

Say what you want about Russia. Russia is not corrupt. Russia's single payer healthcare uses only 7% of GDP and efficiently covers everyone. No insurance lobby threatening the government like what happens in America where 17% of GDP is spent on healthcare that still leaves more than 10% uninsured.

Well, considering even the most basic help right now (say you need an antibiotic) costs most people without insurance more than a weeks pay... I'd say just about anything would be better than what we have now

We all saw this old goat coming from miles away. Single payer in America would be such a failure, but it just may happen. Congress will say that the system is so broken that they just cannot fix it, and when Obamacare fails, as it must, they will say that single payer is the only solution. At that point, a majority will agree, and, well... we will get what is coming to us. We always do, and it is never good.

When I have customers without insurance I will usually work with the doctors to get the most cost effective medications, that will also be therapeutically effective. Some antibiotics are not expensive at all....however, something like zyvoxx or vancomycin.....they are horribly expensive.

They rather go to pre ACA days than enact single payer. Insurance lobby has a lot of power in DC.

What does "get what is coming to us" mean?

Do you mean paying the highest costs anywhere in the world?

Or that our health outcomes are absolutely dismal?

How on earth can "we get what's coming to us"? What has the US citizen done to do deserve anything but the best care on earth?

Like clockwork, Bernie Sanders promises to introduce "Single Payer" every few months, and an ATS thread is started. Here's the most recent: 3.28.2017 - www.abovetopsecret.com...

Bernie needs to stop being like Kim Jong and just "DO IT".

Any system that has been used in modern America is a money making business that happens to see sick people.

And any system in Modern America is doomed to fail due to profit motives. It is as simple as Medical is too expensive (compared to other countries).

Lol what a joke.

A Republican already introduced a single payer amendment a week or so ago. Not one democrat voted for it.

He says America is the only country that does not guarantee healthcare for every person, leaving 28 million uninsured. Not true.

He says major country and on that part he is right. So your ignorant statement is wrong as usual.

You fell over yourself when you wrote the thread praising Russian healthcare and how America should follow them now they don't give quality service? Putin puppets need to work on their memory.
US healthcare is really bad. Trump should copy either Russia or China.

They don't cover things like surgeries or cancer treatment.

So people in nations like Canada and England doesn't get those things. Yeah ok do you make this crap up or is someone feeding it to you Comrade?

so single payer will never be able to get through Congress.

At least you got one thing right. Congress is in the pocket of big pharma and the insurance companies to let it pass.

Correct, the system has been on self destruct for the last 30-40 years. We are headed for a crash, and like it or not a change is going to have to be made.

If we outlaw insurance, I would not want to have any healthcare emergencies for 2 years after that mess is instituted.

Or single payer (Canada-Euro style) or medicare for all will be a smoother adjustment. I just wonder who is going to take less money? Our health care system is a money making venture that happens to see sick people.
