Must admit I cried I remember my great uncle Ted telling me about Dunkirk so it did bring back emotions for me.
The cinema was pretty full with all ages.
The sound of the Fockers...scared me in the cinema let alone If i was there.

Haven't seen it and don't plan on it.

Use to like watching war movies, but don't anymore.

People need to remember though.

Movies made on 'historical' events are not any more real the modern day 'news' we get.

Defeat means your own capital city is occupied by your enemy, London, England, was NOT occupied by Germany, so Britain was not defeated, German's capital city Berlin, was occupied by the Russians, who can rightly boast that they won the war with Nazi Germany, The USSR spilt the most blood, suffered the greatest destruction, so I think they are welcome to the victory.

saw it yesterday
pretty good war film
points out repeated stupid command decisions overcome by bravery

that and magic spitfires that dogfight with no fuel

i doubt it wins oscars for performances
perhaps effects or editing tho

No Oscars for 'Dunkirk', no Americans in it. Or golden globes either.

Erwin Rommel's 7th panzer division had the highest casualty rate of the french campaign, that tells me he was not that good a general at that time of the war.
Known as the 'ghost' division as no one new where he was.

By using their own people as cannon fodder.

Reported that over 20 million Russians died.

It is quite obvious you know nothing about the Eastern Front based on this statement alone.

Still won.

I wrote about the score in an earlier post. It gives Dunkirk a real sense of urgency, I don't have the vocabulary to describe it, it's almost like a subtle heartbeat effect which quickens and subsides, depending on what's going on in the movie.

Digg had an interesting article about it today. The effect I'm inadequately trying to describe is a Shepard Tone. I'd never heard of it before. Here's the link for those who are interested.
