I saw something similar in Maine,USA ....back in the early 80's....I was really young and it was 4 am. It woke me up and I looked out the window and it was eating out of the trash can.....true story !! Scared the hell out of me !!! .....but I think this photo of Scotland creature looks like a tree stump .

The witness was a manager of NHS mental health services? The jokes almost write themselves.

If it is a monitor lizard, it won't last the winter, unless it gets in the sewers with the alligators.

That was my first thought too.In the little field outside my fence there is a treestump in the shape of a dog.Sometimes when its foggy in the early morning it still surprises me,and i wonder for a moment whose doggy is just sitting there. Then i remember the stump

Clearly the photoshopped neck and head of a lizard onto a tree stump. Two different pictures displaying different hues of colour.

"Oh look a guy walking an iguana on a leash!" -takes 10 pictures and a 2 minute video
"oh look, an unidentified creature!" - takes just one picture, that'll do it

like others have said, just a tree stump viewed from a specific angle.
now to be fair, if most of us ever saw that while taking a walk, there would be a split second of pants pooping before we realized what was going on

One grainy photo in this day and age and in an area that is not a good habitat for lizards or reptiles reminds of the guy that took a photo of this...

But maybe it will be good for tourism...

Agree 100% ... Tree Stump

Yes. Definitely a tree stump with a face, eyes, nose and two paws. Definitely not a released lizard pet. Always a hoax, however far-fetched or improbable. Got to preserve the Darwinian paradigm at all costs.

Yep - it's a tree. No one would take a single image of something like this if they really saw an animal looking like that. It would be a video or at the very least a series of pictures.

Rotten tree stump. The neck is a branch coming out the other side of it.

I've tried finding a follow up to the story. But so far nothing.

I've seen a lot of crazy things before. And I'm still on the fence about this one.

Looks like a ferret standing up, probably just a tree though.

Looks like a tree stump to me.

You're exactly right. I downloaded the picture and ran it through a couple of filters to clean it up and you can clearly see it is an old weathered tree stump. The "neck and head" is an old limb that is actually leaning away from the camera. This explains why the photog didn't actually take video.
