Google? Why is Google playing around with mosquitoes? They should stick to managing their search engine monopoly and stop trying to save the world.

Billionaires playing games?

Are you trying to act like a bot?
Or just a bot?

Either way, it's annoying.

My question is
How does anything mate if it is sterile ? Produce offspring ?

Mating is a synonym for sex in this case, and the mosquitoes can, believe it or not, have sex even if they are sterile. It just won't result in any offspring.

But wasnt the freakin point to have offspring that couldnt mate ?
Like I said , a box of rocks. Without the box...

NO!!!

The point is to release mosquitos that cannot breed but can mate.

What are you having a hard time understanding?

Most everyone gets it, but I will rephrase it for you.

Female mosquitos that cannot reproduce offspring are being released into the wild. They can still have sex with male mosquitos that generally live about 4 days, but there will not be any offspring.

Go back and read some of the earlier posts. You were late for the party

Sterile male mosquitos instead of female mosquitos.

Still the same thing. What are you having a hard time understanding?

You said you think the point was to have offspring.

The opposite is true.

The females will lay eggs that never hatch.

This is not new. We had an apartment by the beach for many years, and this method had been done in that area to get rid of mosquitos. It worked.

Supposedly the virus die along with the eggs and does not remain in the soil. Also, the virus has not been found in mosquito saliva, so there is no transmission.

They also studied jumping spiders who were eating only the virus-infected mosquitoes with no ill effect or harm whatsoever resulting.

Its pretty simple. They want females to mate with males who can not reproduce. They will do this instinctively with 0 results. It is actually pretty smart!!!! fortune.com...

WTF is GOOGLE doing it. ??

who made them in charge?

From a garage with 3 computers, to keeping the world safe from mosquito's with human made disease. From a search engine to AI and robotics that will control the planet to keep us safe from human made problems.

Sit back and argue about male or female this and that, you guys.

this worries me...

wait, just getting an alert on my google cardboard. Ahhaha nothing to see here. carry on. it's all normal.
