Jimmy Carter gets medical attention after collapsing from dehydration in Winnipeg

Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter received medical attention for dehydration while in Winnipeg on Thursday, where he is helping build a Habitat for Humanity home.

Say what you want about him but I'm not about to bad mouth a man of his age out there doing physical work to help the homeless.

A Habitat volunteer told CBC News he saw Carter, 92, collapse after he'd been working in the sun for about an hour, using a handsaw to cut wood for a staircase. Carter's bodyguards rushed over and carried him to a nearby vehicle. Shortly afterwards, firefighters and paramedics were seen scrambling, and an ambulance arrived. The media was pushed back from the view of Carter before the ambulance left the site, followed immediately by his motorcade.

Ex President Carter received fluids and was kept for observation telling his co-worker to get back to the job and he's join them when possible.

Amazing. 92, EX-POTUS and working with a hand saw for humanity. Wow.

Seems like a good enough fellow, but that doesn't always equate to a good president. At least he leads by example, which is a very noble thing and, quite honestly, a lost form of teaching.

I respect Carter for his post-presidency fortitude and his devotion to housing for the poor.

Maybe Obama should take a page from Carter's playbook instead of flitting around the world like he's still the commander and chief.

Prayers to the Carter family.

How much the factories for war hated Carter is directly proportional to his chopping at the defense budget back when he was president. He did more to defang the Department of 'Defense' than a direct attack by the Soviets, making the world a more peaceful place, not less of a one. The response was Reagan, who ramped up the war industry and look were that got us today? Endless war.

Thanks President Carter, we need more like you.

Amazing indeed, that such a decent person was ever president. Less surprising is that he was not a very effective president. There's a link there.

wise words.

end of the day it does show, people prefer to live under a perceived threat rather than in peace.

Good thing he was in Winnipeg. Maybe he'll get free treatment since healthcare is so good in Canada.

He was a one-term president. There was plenty of chaos all around the world and he wanted to play nice and pretend it wasn't happening. If Regan had been like Carter, there would still be a USSR today and probably twice the size it was then. The only good thing that would come out that is that the youngsters would have a different super power to blame for every problem on the planet.

The pretenders think they can wage war with the world and win.

Still fighting the cold war. You lose.

Empires always lose in the end.

I never had any problem with Carter's presidency he was an honest and passive president, no many of those anymore.

He went on to be a great humanitarian.

At his age she should be at home comfortable no been exposed to the elements and weather.

But that is the life of presidents, to keep on going.

I hope he recuperates and live long.
