20,000 little green Stars.

So I just noticed I hit the 20,000 Stars mark.

And it got me wondering...

What the hell are they for anyways?
I've never liked them since I first joined in 2011...
Don't get the appeal...

Like retweets (twitter) & likes (tracebook)...


In saying that, I'm a bit of a hypocrite...
Because I give out Stars like it's nobody's business...

But in my defence I give them for all sorts of things...


What's up with that...
I don't want any but give them out for fun?
Anyone else feel like that?


Whoever replies will probably get a star.
Because that's how I roll innit...

That and I'd probably appreciate any sort of comment towards this, rambling, which could have been a rant I guess...
But I save them (rants) for anger mode.

The green stars on ATS are only half of the equation and are essentially meaningless. ATS needs to move to the up vote / down vote system. At least then we would get a better representation of how people actually feel about a particular poster's posts.

I think stars should be of a different color for each forum.

Every 10k stars of same color, you get a galaxy.

100 galaxies makes you a Elohim.

That's exactly how I feel... they are fun to give out .. but not that important to receive, though it's nice to know the odd member sees value in what you're saying.

Agreed. Worthless without a downvote option.

If people worry about their star and flag count,they are doing it wrong.

Most times for me,the star and flag whores ruin the ats experience by souring the boards looking for flags and stars.
I like to say this when I get a chance....it is about quality,not quantity.

How do you purposely go about looking for stars and flags, and also, how could that be detrimental?

I like to hand them out as well. One thing they are useful for though, is if you are late to a thread with hundreds of replies, you can skim through it easier knowing the starred post are usually more relevant or make a good point / counter point.

When I make a thread, I usually give them out to anyone who replies. What I don't understand is how people decide to give out flags / stars to an OP. I'll see an OP with 30 flags but only 15 stars. Usually if I give you a flag, you get a star too.

Stars are like 'points' or frequent flyer miles. Sort of 'rewarding' but can't really hang them on your office wall like a plaque.

I'd prefer a raise to plaques anyway.
