We do. But why do we have to? Isn't that conforming to a different ideology's form of political correctness? The kind where if you don't call for the eradication of Islam, you're a terrorist apologist?

So many focus on the religion...but is it not apt to say it is more the culture extremism that produces the terrorists? True they use religion in their proproganda...but is it not more a culture issue that clashes with western culture? In the middle east...the terrorist seem to be attacking other islams...so it has to be more than religion at play.

Yes, there is cultural extremism, but if you want to look even bigger picture, there will always be bad people in this world. They infiltrate all areas of society - they can be found in all religions, in all types of government, in all forms of economy. There are people who control, oppress and harm others within Christianity, Islam, Judaism - democracies, theocracies, monarchies, in socialist environments, communist environments, Democratic republic environments. To place the blame on any one of these is to not be able to see the bigger picture.

The type of harm done to others may differ within the culture, the timeframe, or the ability to stop it, but bad people have always and will always exist everywhere.

The Quran treats women with equality and respect. The Quran advocates treating everyone with kindness and compassion, as long as they are not attacking you.

Jesus says to treat others as you would like to be treated. There are plenty of Catholic priests who didn't follow that.

There are bad people everywhere.

My personal belief is that if the West would get the hell out of the Middle East, their revolution would come. Many Islamic nations were modern before we stuck our noses over there. Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria... were far more secular, women were educated and held careers. It's really sad. So much human progress lost. For oil.

Getting rid of the religion? That's false. No one stated that or even implied that. I clearly said criticize the religion. But this is another example of the lengths the politically correct are willing to go to slander critics.

There is no chance of reform if the reformers (all of whom are Muslims themselves) and critics are marked for death by the Islamists, while at the same time labelled as bigots, racists, and extremists by the politically correct. This behavior will get them all killed.

There is much truth to that. The CIA and western forces in general have had a hand in turning many societies for the worse.

The change of Islam needs to come from within. That's why we must protect and support the reformers and critics instead of relegating them to the status of evil bigots.

I do see the nuance. I also see the wide variety of sects and offshoots.

No, they shouldn't be "lumped in with terrorists", and I haven't done so. The general view of Muslims towards terrorism and groups such as ISIS is largely unfavourable around the world. But the statistics are quite telling in other areas. For instance being gay is a crime punishable by jail or even death in many Muslim countries. Leaving the religion is a crime punishable by jail or even death in many Muslim countries. They behead sorcerers and adulterers in their holy city (imagine if that was going on in the Vatican). They execute blasphemers. Some kids recently got lashes in Tehran for acting out a Bruno Mars song. Then there is FGM, which is common in Muslim countries. Then there is women's rights. Most believe a woman should obey her husband. Apostasy is a religious crime and civil liability, often punishable by death. Most believe in theocracy, that religious leaders should have at least a say in government affairs.
