There's a whole lot of truth in that. And it may be that a result of the great divide will be that finally the leftists who want government everything will embrace a New Federalism..........instead of trying to run the lives of people who want to be left the eff alone in the Red States of fly over country by a big Federal Bureaucracy, they'll embrace the idea of less Federal Governance so they can run their Blue States/Zones the way they want to..........its already happening with Sanctuary cities and states and State marijuana laws.

Either northwestern Canada or northeastern Russia for me. Just put me in another place where I can fish for salmon in the summer, hunt moose in the fall, and enjoy a few hours of sunlight per day in the winter and I'll be a happy man.

I think the root of the Great Divide is this: you have a pack of people on one side who want government to do a lot for them, take care of them; on the other side you have the ones who want to government to leave them the eff alone.

Most of it follows from that.

Government leaving me the eff alone entails leaving me my choices, my life, my money, my property, etc. I shouldn't have to worry too much about which @ss warms the oval office chair because his or her decisions should mainly affect foreign involvements, not my day to day life in minute details like who my GP doc can or can't be.

But the pack that wants government to care for them - they need services and programs which need money. Money means in my pocketbook. Programs necessarily start to interfere with my life because inevitably those things will do for me even if I didn't want them to, never wanted them to, and I don't care if it's "for my own good or not."

So, I think that's the root of the divide.

Yes, it is the root of the divide, selfishness, out of site out of mind people who do not want their taxes to "pay for the poors healthcare" vs. the compassionate people who want to help the needy bc a strong country takes care of all of its citizens, even the poor ones.

Thats the short story of it, I could really go on and on but you've probably heard it before.

At this point in my life, I want to just live in laid back, friendly, warm Caribbean, (Hawaii without the homeless) areas. I've heard from Marlon Brando that Tahiti is paradise-everyone loves everyone (and loves all children) and is friendly. Basically, I just want to be around happy, peaceful people and beautiful beaches.

So there was thread here started a few days ago asking what people thought about a certain country and asked people all over the ATS to chime in...

So I have another question kind of on the same premise but asked a different way...

If you could chose another country besides the one you currently live in to move to, what county would it be??
Basically if you can live any where other than where you live where would it be and why....

I'll start, I live in America but would love to live in Chile or even New Zealand....Purely for the untouched vast stretches of wilderness...

Costa Rica, Playa Hermosa Beach. Beautiful Pacific beach with tidepools, plenty of rainforest, and a great international mesh of people...oh and great surfing too!

Ahh Costa Rica one of my favorites. I like the Jaco/Los Suenious area. Quepos isn't bad as well. I have a friend who has an awesome offgrid sustainable ranch in the mountains near the cloud forest. I love Costa Rica!!

I like to visit CA but wouldn't want to live there.

Belize . They speak English, use the American dollar , and have very reasonable prices. Oh yeah and perfect weather year round , great fishing , huge barrier reef, and very few republicans and democrats .

If I could move (i legally cant) I would like to live in France, Italy, Sweden, Norway or Switzerland.

Just move to California.

You get the same socialist lifestyle with plenty of Government telling you what to do and think.

OK, I totally misread your "not legally forever" post as saying not legally, forever. My bad.

If I were rich and carefree;

I've longed for the challenge of life in the Antarctic. Perhaps near the shores of Lake Vanda or a particular un-named summit west of the Convoy Range. Using a scaled down version of the Belgian, Princess Elizabeth Station
or French, Concordia Base
about as close to mars as I could get and still breath...

On the other hand Mt. Kineo, Moosehead Lake, Maine's nice too
