Luckily Google is working on deep mind technology that may end up saving humanity at some point in the near future. On one hand we racing towards the apocalypse and on the other we are racing towards Transcendence.

My only question is... which one will we get to first?

Deep mind blog

MultiModel’s performance on other tasks. It is not only possible to achieve good performance while training jointly on multiple tasks, but on tasks with limited quantities of data, the performance actually improves. To our surprise, this happens even if the tasks come from different domains that would appear to have little in common, e.g., an image recognition task can improve performance on a language task.

It seems as if we are having a convergance of technologies reaching the market. On one hand we have Google advancing it's deep ming projects by open sourcing it's technology similar to how Linus Torvalds create Linux and the open source collaborative community.

It's a unique way to tap into the collective mind through technology.

On the other hand we have DARPA creating robotic arms that can feel for veterans.

I am predicting massive world changes in the very near future. Hold on to your seats.

How are we "racing towards apocalypse"?

People have been making that claim for thousands of years.. Yet we're still here.

Bet if you lived in the middle east you would feel different, or even Venezuela or parts of Africa or even parts of the US

Yeah, but that is nothing new. The Middle East has been on the verge of Apocalypse for 2000 years now.

Not so sure about that

Before the muhjahadden and ayatollahs in Iran it was fairly decent a city in Lebanon was known as the Paris of the middle east... Its the rise of Islam that's destroyed it in the 40 years or so

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
...oooops my bad thats not a prophecy thats the opening of Age of Aquarious ... Either way THE END IS NEAR!!

So.............. you are saying that world has never known strife before?

The middle East has been in turmoil for 2000 years, the only difference now is we have nuclear weapons.

Watchitburn is correct, no reason to believe we are racing towards the apocalypse.

Well technically the apocalypse would bring about transcendence for a significant percentage of the human race, just not in the way we imagine.

Transcendence and broaching the singularity is the only way we will ever completely conquer biological evolution and move along to greener fields so to speak.

Maybe you are right... transcendence, the singularity and the apocalypse all are exactly the same things from different perspectives.

What like throwing out pro-western interests?

en.wikipedia.org...

However, the country had a large Muslim population and many pan-Arabist and left-wing groups opposed the pro-western government. The establishment of the state of Israel and the displacement of a hundred thousand Palestinian refugees to Lebanon during the 1948 and 1967 exoduses contributed to shifting the demographic balance in favor of the Muslim population. The Cold War had a powerful disintegrative effect on Lebanon, which was closely linked to the polarization that preceded the 1958 political crisis, since Maronites sided with the West while leftist and pan-Arab groups sided with Soviet-aligned Arab countries.[8]

Aye she's a cruel mistress that one.

Thing with perspective is that it requires a point of view, and those can change like the weather.

The word apocalypse has nothing to do with the end of the world.

Just like the term conspiracy theory doesn't mean "bad stuff the government does"

Ultimately will we become biological robots, mechanical beings or simply a form of energy? What form will our transendence take? Could we end up as something rendered in a quantum computer system, or are we already that?

In alchemy if I'm correct as you achieve higher levels the rules of each level change as you move "up"

so maybe our understanding of all of this quantum and science and mind all change and that change is part of the traacedent experience and we are unable to perceive those changes... for now
