To use a example given above.

Its nobody says anything when Trump plays golf.

Obama plays a few rounds and people were making criticising him over it.

Hypocrisy.

If Trump supporters actually rose above the hypocrisy there arguments could be taken seriously.

That's not hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform.

it IS that, then after you read the definition you must use your brain to figure out how to use it in a sentence..etc.

Obama plays golf and everyone of ATS loses there minds.

Trump plays golf and that's ok.

How is that not hypocrisy?

Wasn't everyone complaining how much Trump golfs as well? I can pull up entire mainstream articles on the subject, but you're concerned with guys on ATS?

It's not hypocrisy because hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform.

in this thread I want to discuss this further in the hope this might lead to more civilised discussion

Stopped there because TLDR after looking at title and forum.

You serious though?

Actually my thinking was that if Trump supporters could see how they are being hypocritical at times then they might see why some get so frustrated when debating with them. Do I think that that this thread will achieve that or that it will lead to more civilised discussion, no, but like i said above a guy can hope!

if i were you, i would just stop typing that, you are coming off as stupid

What do I care how I come off to someone who doesn't even know what hypocrisy is?

You don't sound stupid, they do....Keyboard courage!!! Anything Obama did, that trump does, is okay for trump, but not Obama. Its plain and simple. trump has said awful things about Obama, and I have never seen a president play the blame game more than trump....Many of the things trump takes credit for were already in the works, under the Obama administration. My God, don't tell them that though, they might explode.

Go ahead, Use your keyboard courage, I could care less. I am made legitimate point..........

Well if that was your intentions, you took the wrong approach because I didn't make it past the first paragraph.

I did read the closing comments, but that didn't help either.

You are doing what you usually do, arguing semantics, running to a dictionary and ignoring how fluid language is.

You seem to have this childish idea that one word must mean what the dictionary says even though if I look at two different dictionaries they will give slightly different definitions to a word and if I look at legal texts they will again offer up a different definition.

Meaning comes from what the majority understand the word to mean or what the legal texts define the word as, a dictionary is only a guide. At university I wrote entire essays on what a word meant. Language is much more complex than you give it credit for.

So by all means run to your dictionary but honestly it makes you look silly when the rest of us all seem to know what is meant by hypocrisy in the context of this thread.

Why bother commenting on a thread you have not even bothered to read.

How can anyone on this thread possibly enter into meaningful conversation with you on the topic of this thread when you have not actually bothered to read it.

Hypocrisy is demanding the the election results be accepted but then doing anything but that when the results didn't go your way.

Hypocrisy is crying that Trump may have had something to do with the Russians when your side did have something to do with the Russians.

It is hypocritical to complain about someone else's hypocrisy when there are as many, or more, examples from your own side.

In other words, you have no leg to stand on.

Great post!

Interesting that the op and those in agreement that claim to want a serious discussion glossed right over this.

You don't know what is meant by hypocrisy, which is evidenced by your misuse of the the term in your silly attempt to falsely accuse others of something they haven't done.

I am not disputing the results of the election. Trump won the electoral collage.

Hypocrisy is crying that Trump may have had something to do with the Russians when your side did have something to do with the Russians.

So firstly you are assuming I have a side in this, again it falls back to this assumption of anti-trump equals pro-Hilary

If the accusations being levelled at Trump had been levelled at Obama then most trump supporters would be calling for his impeachment.

It is hypocritical to complain about someone else's hypocrisy when there are as many, or more, examples from your own side.

So again you are assuming i had a side, I have adressed all of this in the OP, how am i being a hypocrite?

In other words, you have no leg to stand on.

Actually I have two and right now they feel quite sturdy.

the biggest problem is when some idiot thinks that he can paint "Trump Supporters" with one nice wide brush. It's the epitome of stupid. There are quite a few varieties. But the one thing that will remain constant, is the more bottom feeders come up with dumbass ideas like this one, the more they will find people opposing their low information viewpoints.

So this is what you are doing.

You do not like trump supporters called out as a hypocrites.

So you falsely accuse me of misusing the term and even though you probably know deep down i am not your just going to carry on with it because to admit you might have been a bit wrong in your accusation would make you look weak.

Now you dont look weak, just a bit silly.

How would you describe then what I call the hypocrisy of the Trump supporters?

Here's one.

Obama played golf and everyone on ATS was up in arms.

Trump plays golf every week and that's ok....

That's only because Trumps better at golf than Obama.

This place would explode if the two of them played a few rounds together.

When Trump lambasts Obama for golfing when he should be working, then he himself goes golfing, that is hypocrisy.

Falsely accusing you of misusing the term? That's false. I used the definition of hypocrisy from the very dictionary to show you that you're using it wrong, which is not only silly, false, but dare I say idiotic.

Because I've seen enough to realize you are being disingenuous with your intentions, and given the comments you have received so far, only validates my beliefs.

Maybe you aren't even doing it on purpose.

I only commented because I wanted to let you know that if I couldn't even finish it, others might not be able to as well, making your noble attempt for a civil discussion futile.

You are right.

I am painting all Trump supporters with the same brush.

But can you see why?

Can you not see that when none of the Trump supporters actually address their own hypocrisy its difficult not to.

So far, one member tried to make it about race, another basically refuses to acknowledge the use of the word hypocrite quite a few have turned it round with the usual what about the hypocrisy of the other side argument or have deflected by making accusations towards the left and some like you have just opted for insluts.

But none of you so far have said, yeah ok this is hypocritical i can accept that and this is why.... none of you have addressed the issue.
