""President Trump announced Wednesday night that he will soon ask Congress to pass legislation banning immigrants from accessing public assistance within five years of entering the U.S.

“The time has come for new immigration rules that say ... those seeking immigration into our country must be able to support themselves financially and should not use welfare for a period of at least five years," Trump told a campaign-style rally in Grand Rapids, Iowa.""

I thought our ancestors came to America because of the opportunity to succeed...to achieve their dreams. All of the immigrants I know are entrepreneurs, or have a good job.

Are TOO MANY immigrants now seeking a different "opportunity"? The opportunity to leech off of U.S. taxpayers?

The data must be showing something else now. I'd like to see where most immigrants are coming from over the past 8 years of Obama. Maybe he loosened the government qualification rules so much that a few enrolled, and then word spread like wildfire.

You already have to be here 5 years to get SNAP (foodstamps) as an immigrant...

Look for yourself on the government's own website

Certain non-citizens such as those admitted for humanitarian reasons and those admitted for permanent residence may also eligible for the program. Eligible household members can get SNAP benefits even if there are other members of the household that are not eligible.

....right.

I believe he means ANY public assistance. The leftist policies in CA and NM allow anyone to apply for welfare, and AZ is getting just as bad. This keeps the flow of undocumented democrats flowing north... at our expense.

I remember the Arizona Republic doing a piece back in the late 90s, explaining how Mexican nationals were obtaining U.S. PO boxes, and filing for social security benefits... and GETTING them.

This crap needs to end.

[snipped] From the site YOU linked to :-

Have lived in the country for 5 years; or
Are receiving disability-related assistance or benefits; or
Children under 18

So every immigrant can get foodstamps for their children and for themselves if they can claim disability and quite frankly, as a Counselor, I can tell you that Immigrants from a worn torn country will be capable of claiming disability due to Psychological issues. Then, all of those whinny SJW Social Workers will be giving out benefits like lollies.

More of the same Kettu!

Yeah, it's called refugees. The kind of people Jesus would probably want you to take care of.

State public assistance departments can/do have their own requirements and rules on top of the federal guidelines.

Some are stricter, some not so. That's up to your state. Deal with it at the state level then. States rights! Hoo-rah! or whatnot.

In the end, however, they have to comply with federal guidelines in order to receive the federal funding to distribute to the people showing up at he public assistance office.

So, now you know what Jesus would do?

You certainly are connected to some powerful people.

"Give to God what is God's and give to Rome what is Rome's."

What, you missed that one!

Yeah, pretty much. It's all in the Bible.

And a lot of people also know what Jesus would do because they have WWJD stickers. I haven't personally asked them, but why put a sticker on their car if they weren't versed in the Bible and knew what his teachings were?

Why not? Jesus fed the poor, just like SNAP.

If you're a felon and have a kid, that means you can get food stamps for your kid, but not for you. That's pretty much what that means.
