A few weeks ago I started using streaming music for lucid dreaming while I sleep, like below

My reasoning for doing so was because I have terrible trouble staying asleep. I have back issues and was sleeping terribly, always waking up with a very hot and inflamed back in a lot of pain. So I thought I have nothing to lose and tried some calming music to see if it would help along with a few other changes such as new pillows and matttress protector. So far so good on that front - I have found I am now sleeping very deeply.

But.... something weird is beginning to happen.

I am now sleep talking in unintelligible gibberish. Quite a lot apparently according to my partner. That is not all either. A week or so ago, I was at work and I saw out the corner of my eye a person standing, looking right at me. It startled me a bit as I was in the store room and I thought a customer was standing in the doorway looking at me. So I turned around to talk to them, but there was nobody there. I put that experience down to my mind playing tricks on me. But it happened again in a different part of the store and with a different looking person. And it happened again and again. Something like 6 times in the past two weeks. Sometimes I recognise the person as someone I have seen already, others it is someone new. Always out of the corner of my eye, but when I see look directly toward them, they are gone.

I was working out in the back yard today, thinking on this and wondering why only at work. Why not when driving (I travel 60 miles every day on the open road to and from work) and why not at home. Then it dawned on me. Directly across the road from work is a funeral home. Hearses are in and out of there with the deceased quite often.

So.... does anyone else have experience with this? Am I crazy? Do my eyes need checking? Or.... am I seeing dead people?

Truth is, nobody knows what you're seeing. Could be your mind playing tricks, could really be ghosts if they exist, or even people from another universe.

You need to be very, very careful when you start playing with your subconscious. Music that is meant to affect your sleeping mind may have influences you really don't want.

It's not like what i am experiencing frightens me - the only time I was startled was the first time when I got a fright because I thought a customer was watching me from a part of the store they are not meant to be in. We have had the odd senile old person wander in before and had to ask them to leave nicely as the store room is not the safest of places for customers to be. So that is why I was startled, because I had the door open, but never saw anyone walk in, they were just 'there'

And I have always held the belief that it is not the dead we need to be afraid of, it is the living who are the real threat.

Maybe the poster is implying that this will escalate to something that becomes a real problem for you.

I worked with someone who claimed her sister had certain "abilities" that included seeing dead people. She told the story of when her sister was renting an old house in Vermont for a week with her and her husband, when the first morning, the sister came down to breakfast looking haggard and tired. She said that during the night, some old guy was sitting on top of her on the bed, and he wouldn't stop yelling in her face all night. He was upset at her being in his bedroom, and he was going on and on about how he was mistreated in life. Really angry guy. She stayed one more night, then left because she couldn't take it anymore.

Remember, the dead used to be living people, and some people just aren't very nice.

Well, if I am totally 100% honest, these sort of things have happened throughout my life. But never in such a concentration. I used to be afraid, but now I am not.

There are just as many unsavory characters in the living realm as there are in the spirit world. I don't really understand why people fear the dead so much. As you said, they used to be living. The people I have seen seem more curious than anything. Like they are just lost and watching every day life going on around them.

If you were under perfect conditions your scenario may be a bit more credible in regards to the paranormal.

However, you've already stated you're sleeping habits are terrible; caused by pain nonetheless. Which means you're constantly dealing with exhaustion.

If you're on any pain medications or muscle relaxants then that's only going to further your exhaustion.

These factors heavily lean towards a non-paranormal cause for what you're witnessing.

I'd see a doctor if it's gone this far

No, I am not on any pain meds and I am not in a semi hallucinogenic state from tiredness. I have in fact turned to more natural remedies - turmeric in the form of golden milk (a powerful and completely natural anti inflammatory) My sleep as a result of a multifaceted approach to the problem is vastly improved - I am not tired during the day any more. Remember, I drive 60 miles a day to and from work down kangaroo infested roads. I am well aware that it is in my best interests to ensure that I am lucid and alert at all times while driving as those roos can jump out at any second and cause quite a bit of damage to your vehicle. Just ask my partner, he's hit one already.

And I am not in anywhere near as much pain as before thanks to the miracle of sports tape applied in certain areas of my lower back. I think my problem has been weak ligaments all along, letting my back pop in and out all over the place.

So in short, I do not accept that pain and or painkillers are the problem. I am not using painkillers and as I said in the OP, things are getting better now. The music I listen to really helps keep me asleep. I will become semi conscious and hear the music, then drift back into a deep state of sleep again. I am actually waking up before my alarm now, ready to go for the day because i feel so refreshed.

Dead people aside, I'm envious of your improved sleep. I'm not in any pain, but a good night's sleep is elusive for me these days.

Well.... there are many forms of sleep music on YouTube. Not just lucid dreaming tracks. Maybe you could try it. I am actaully listening to a Lucid Dreaming track right now to see if there is anything weird in it.

I'm hearing nothing but relaxing piano music after three hours........

Bingo. I also suffer from insomnia due to pain. I've been on narcotic pain meds for years and I've seen first hand how they and the pain itself, [ possible endorphins being released? ] can have an effect on sleep, dreams and certainly waking life. I never completely pooh pooh psychic phenomena, but I always, always question the how behind it. I have lived a very interesting life and much of it has been because of the just plain weird and unexplainable.
Someday, I'm going to sit and write a long thread about it.

I know someone like you who has narcotic pain meds. I have seen him in states where he can barely talk because he is in so much pain and I have seen him looking like he is off in fairy land because of his narcotics.

He is the reason I am trying to manage my issue naturally. I don't want to go down his road as it makes him very sick too.
And as a result, I am definitely way more lucid in my waking hours than he is at times.

I can speak from experience, dont acknowledge them unless you want to be constantly pestered.
The dead are all around us constantly. Some can see them, some can hear them.
The lucid dreaming music can take you deep into your subconscious. You may have even requested this ability from your own mind. Take control and keep control of this gift, or they will try to.

Awesome. I think you figured it out.

For whatever reason that 'person' (spirits are people too, just without bodies) is appearing to you in the 'corner' of your vision to ask something of you. This is going to sound weird but next time this happens, don't look at it and break contact, try holding your head still, 'see it' and quietly direct a thought question at them.

"Can I help you?" and wait, holding the image and listening in your head for any reply. You won't hear and audible answer but may get a projected one. Maybe they have a message for you to deliver to the world of the living.

Maybe something for you.

Going one further, sleep at work for a night or few, if you can...

The very first time this ever happened to me was many years ago. At a Maori Tangi (traditional burial) - The Maori people spend time with the body, speaking to it and socialising with it, even sleeping with it in the Whare-nui (longhouse for sleeping in)

I did not know the Auntie who's Tangi it was personally, she was a relative of my partner of the day I had never met. Imagine my surprise then as they were lowering her coffin into the ground when I could hear a woman screaming with fright. She was panicking because she was being buried. I freaked out and my partner's sister noticed. We whispered in the crowd at the time it was happening and she just told me to tell her it was okay, that the spirits would come to take her to Waikiki that night. She spoke like it was a normal thing that happens at these funerals.

Just in case you ARE seeing dead people, every evening when leaving work tell whoever is there they are not allowed to follow you out of the store. Many people who have seen them get followed when the "ghost" realizes the person can see them. Then they try to make contact, and the activity just picks up from there.

So you are becoming aware you are 'sensitive' to spirits.

"Buried alive??!" That person must really have been too 'attached' to their earthly self.

In that movie Bruce Willis didn't know he was dead... maybe you just 'happened' to get that job across from the funeral home... maybe its your 'job' to tell these people they have passed... tell them its time to 'move on'.

Interesting

I have known for a long time.

In my younger years I wanted to become a Priest as I felt drawn to the spiritual realm and I was raised in a very conservative Catholic family. I traveled to Europe and went to a place called Medjugorje where many inexplicable things happened. It was there that the very first person told me that I have gifts.

There was much else that was said and happened at that place that is beyond the scope of this thread, but it was from Medjugorje these things started happening. And that was 1993.

I became truly frightened of the things I could see and hear not long after that as I witnessed things no person should ever have to. (Think exorcist) So I ran away from it. Things would happen every now and then, but I would just run and get as far away as I could.

But I am older now and I am in a much better place spiritually and most importantly, I'm not scared any more.

So now you can begin. Spirits sense when someone is sensitive (has nothing to do with becoming a 'priest' by the way). Organized religions of the world are spiritual wastelands.

You already have the tools for real work. That is a gift, but everyone potentially has it, some are less corrupted by the world around them and can still 'see'.

How did you land that job across from the funeral home, just wondering...?

Might want to check your sleep pattern.

Years ago I had some phases of insomnia, combined with a really demanding and stressful job.
Worked 60hrs a week, slept only 2-3 hours a night.
And I experienced a lot of peripheral visions.
Sort of like you stare into a lamp and then to the dark, and the bright spot is still visible for some seconds.
Nothing supernatural, at least in my case.
