U.S. arrests nearly 200 Iraqis in deportation sweep

This might answer why Iraq was taken off the Muslim import ban. Also most of these little darlings that were captured had criminal records.

DETROIT (Reuters) - U.S. immigration authorities have arrested and moved to deport 199 Iraqi immigrants, mostly from the Detroit area, in the last three weeks after Iraq agreed to accept deportees as part of a deal removing it from President Donald Trump's travel ban, officials said on Wednesday.

In the Detroit area, 114 Iraqi nationals were arrested over the weekend, and 85 throughout the rest of the country over the past several weeks, Gillian Christensen, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, said in a statement.

The actions came as part of the Trump administration's push to increase immigration enforcement and make countries, which have resisted in the past, take back nationals ordered deported from the United States.

The crackdown on Iraqi immigrants followed the U.S. government's decision to drop Iraq from a list of Muslim-majority nations targeted by a revised version of Trump's temporary travel ban issued in March.

Anyway there are another 1,444 Iraqi nationals with deportation orders hanging over their heads.

i'm glad they were found and caught. It says most of them have criminal records and aren't supposed to be here. I'm assuming they pose too much of a threat to leave them here. I have no problem with peaceful immigrants and those who fall into refugee status, but for those who break our rules or pose a threat, gtfo.

I am also frustrated at the slow speed of it. I can only assume-and hope-that it's due to the fact that D.C. hasn't really been 'drained' enough yet.

One step at a time is better than nothing, I suppose.

Come on , man. Bring your A-game. Slowing it down- and the degree it would slow it down is huge- is not 'all for nothing'.

The welfare money, the education and medical money spent on these guys. The prison money. All of which could be spent on, say, infrastructure, which California isn't doing is the real 'all for nothing'.
