Right. We can't fix other people but we can reach out to them, hold out hope to and for and with them, simply smile at a stranger or try and find someone you can help...

I went out to help someone today but ended up at the library in a book. I always end up helping myself first...

That's awesome. At first I thought you had misspelled scampered; it's not every day I learn two words and I had never seen scarpered before!

This bit?
"nameless fear beckoned to him from the shadows, as the ethereal whispers planted inaudible scenarios deep within the crumbling bastion of his thoughts"
I live that...

Scarpered!!

I remember using that word here in the Shed when I first poked my head in, no one knew what I was talking about. *giggles* I came home from work and there was all this "What does scarpered mean? Did she go? She left us wondering about this strange word!"

I have a tendency to use archaic, and British, vernaculars. (Not saying that the British are archaic
)

But thank you! That little bit I shared is one of my favourite bits, I love the dialogue between Matthew and Nicolai, I love that I can see it in my head as I wrote it. I struggle a lot with dialogue, believing that all of my characters have the same personality and they're all speaking to themselves. Hence a lot of my writing is more.... environmental, surrounds, perception? I guess? I'm still half asleep and non-caffeinated.

PIXIES!! COFFEE! *waves arms wildly*

As for the bit you live.... I am sorry.

I suffer from anxiety,.. it was crippling at one point. I would refuse to leave the house. I couldn't answer the phone. If I did, I could barely talk and I would stutter a lot. If a friend dragged me out, they had to order things for me because I just couldn't talk to the waiter, or checkout person, or anything.

It's still with me, I don't think Anxiety ever leaves.. but I've managed to shunt it down and get on with things, mostly ignoring the annoying fear lingering in my mind.

It's ok to help yourself as well as others.

Have to throw a dragon pic up in honor of our dear dragon friend Syx. I know how people in here, including myself miss his friendship, warmth and humor. And oh how I miss the mystical beasts.

Ate the picture or the donut?

Both, of course! (I'll yak them up behind the sofa later).

I didnt see anything wrong with that dialogue but now I know this because you've struggled a lot with it. You say struggle I say struggled haha.

As for the bit I live.... yeah. It's a lot like anxiety to where I have to force myself out and do things while my mind tries to get me to remain complacent, only most of the time it's too much of a struggle to even force myself to do something lol...

In our stories things happen to the characters that draw them on paths to greatness. Adventures find our characters and they respond heroically or if they don't then something happens to draw the character out of his or her mental block. But that circles back to the fact that adventures happen to them and draw them out.

In life, real life, things are more of the opposite. We have to be the ones to make the magic real again. We have to crawl through the dark well and make ourselves believe that the light is there. It's easy to be in light when it happens to us. It's not so easy to make light.

In a lot of ways that's what I feel life is about, the story of souls who have everything stacked against them and have to fight to hold on to what is real and true. Life is messy and full of obstacles and pain, just like our stories are full of enemies and evil. Ours is a lot harder battle to fight because ours is against, as I know shep knows, principalities and powers of darkness. It's easy to be in one of our stories because the obstacle is always there, upfront and ready to be tackled. Saving the world is as easy as defeating the evil monster(s). But in our world, the road isn't so clear, the goal isn't so simple. The hero is forced upon the heroes path, it's something that happens to him and that he struggles through. But in this life, I believe we have to force ourselves to be heroes, when we feel like we're not.

Like right now I'm starting to despair of writing this because I feel like it's stupid or nobodies going to get anything out of it. But I keep writing because I recognize that voice and it's not mine, lol. We just have to learn what voices are real, what things are real, what values and goals we hold too, and do our best to surround ourselves with the principles of success and abide them as much as able.

I think I'm gonna call that a post haha.

Thank you star, I almost always forget that not only is it OK to help myself but that I am capable and worthy of doing so.

In the past few days I have been busier than normal for someone who has had a heart attack. Even though I'm the Blue Dude I have been playing housewife as no one else is inspired or physically able to do so. This has all caught up with me late this afternoon. I was at the point where I was feeling exhausted and sweating profusely by a little grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, and kitchen cleaning. I've eaten and taken my medication but still have laundry to finish. Hopefully this was not another heart attack but l'm no expert. Wednesday morning I'm scheduled to go in for my stress test and EKG. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Lucid, I wanted to answer your question about how I came up with my name. The name I used when I first joined ATS in 2007 was Sanity Lost. That is in reference to the world getting crazier and crazier everyday and for the world driving me nuts. When my wife passed away in early 2014 I took a long break from ATS and the world in general. Once I was ready to go back to ATS I became LookingForABetterLife. As my life is a mess and I am without my own home,
vehicle, and employment I felt Looking... was the best name. Sanity Lost brought back too many memories of how life was like with my wife. I'd change it to Blue Dude but I don't want to have to start over again.

OMG. Where have you been? How are you? Are you OK? Are you happy? Are you sad?

Just a happy dance from a silly girl because she is, well, happy to see you.

Sounds like you have a handful there Blue. I get the anxiety of having a mini heart attack. My BP is in the danger zone and they are always harping at me here.
I don't express it work or in RL so much, although they know at work now because I had "an incident" last week. But this is really the only place I vent.

Now don't take more responsibility then you need too, that just makes you an enabler. They must take responsibility for themselves, even if it is the smallest ways. Be a little tricky. Ask them for "advice", make them "show" you how to do things. Tell them they do it so much better than you could ever do

It empowers them, but if you plead for help it only triggers their martyr attitude.
I know it is deceptive, tsk, tsk, but you are apparently dealing with experts in manipulation.
This will enable all to survive.
So be "the hunter instead of the hunted'. You don't have to be mean, just cunning, and I bet some good will come from it.
Sorry I am so blunt.
