Lest I forget

Lest I forget, the person I am,
While I travel this dark and dreary road.
Drown my sorrows, in the oceans I swim,
While my heart becomes bitter, frigid, cold.

Lest I grow old and my memory fades,
All those moments lost forever more,
And the person that I once portrayed,
Becomes the thing, that I most abhor.

Let me gaze upon my own reflection,
And see me, for the monster, I've become,
Let this be my chance for resurrection,
And to the darkness, let me not succumb.

Before the light fades from my eyes,
And the blades of death penetrate my skin,
Let me see through the illusions, and the lies,
And become the man I admired again.

Lest I forget, that I was so much more,
When I made the wine I now just drink,
A student of life... honest, humble and poor,
But I was so much more back then I think.

Wow, the picture is an old dude looking at his younger self, but I feel this to myself as I am.

Thank you for writing this!

Blend, as always, just perfect.

You have a beautiful way of writing. And the truth within those words so real.
