U.S. intelligence agencies conducted illegal surveillance on American citizens over a five-year period, a practice that earned them a sharp rebuke from a secret court that called the matter a “very serious” constitutional issue. The criticism is in a lengthy secret ruling that lays bare some of the frictions between the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and U.S. intelligence agencies obligated to obtain the court’s approval for surveillance activities.

Generally when a federal prosecutor or agent is killed in a retaliatory in nature or in connection to a criminal case, the FBI and U.S. attorney’s office are all over the case, demanding an aggressive investigation. However, the FBI’s Miami just passed any questions regarding the 37-year-old’s death to the Hollywood police. Court records indicate that he was handling a number of visa and passport fraud matters.

It's interesting that they think the case is not being investigated as it normally would in this kind of situation.

CAIR Florida's, Hassan Shibley, son of Syrian immigrants, is not happy about President Trump's extreme vetting proposals and was vehemently opposed to his travel ban.

I wonder if Whisenant's work in visa and passport fraud was not appreciated by someone, or if he was uncovering some serious fraud and abuse.

The authorities had access to the same info, I would imagine, if not more.

In light of this murder of a federal prosecutor working on visa fraud and passport cases, this threadcame to mind. I can't find any info on whether he has been apprehended or not and is still on the lose, but I am curious as to whether Whisenant may have been investigating this particular incident:
