Actor Sir Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond, has died aged 89, his family has announced. He played the famous spy in seven Bond films including Live and Let Die and the Spy Who Loved Me. Sir Roger's family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying he had died after "a short but brave battle with cancer".

BBC news

Roger lived a good age, and captured the imaginations of many. Vale!

Mods: Sorry if wrong forum! I am a bit sleep deprived at this point.

I will dedicate a thread to him. My upcoming thread will discuss how Francisco Scaramaga was based on a real life KGB assassin.

RIP Roger Moore.

No but he had an unusual gun (It was crafted by the Soviets) and to some people a good looking dude.

I promise I'll tell you the real story. His life was not as glamorous as James Bond's or Francisco Scaramaga's though.

Its filled with tragedy.

He was my favorite bond. I see a movie marathon in the near future.

Wonder if him and jaws are fighting now in the great beyond?

Sad loss. RIP RM

Roger Moore was a fantastic Bond. I think the best dressed. He pimped the sh*t out of those suits in the 70s.

Sad day, while I still liked Connery more as bond, Sir Roger Moore was nearly as good just in a slightly different way.

later on in life his ability to laugh at himself showed his true character I think.

When I was a little girl in NYC I used to pretend I was on missions with Simon Templer. I went up on roofs and down into unknown cellars but I was brave because dreamy Roger Moore aka Simon was with me.
We had a lot of missions on my churches grounds because it was very large and had buildings that looked like European buildings and lots of winding walkways that became roads for me and my motorcycle.
(My bike)

My dad was a big big James Bond fan. Pretty sure he watched for the beautiful woman. When he came to the movies with us it was almost always a James Bond film.
I loved the cool inventions, the cars and little helicopters I wished I had. I didn't care about weapons but being a diva I was fascinated when one evil woman had poison lipstick....
